lilmissdramatik, i think that it means that they don't think that real love exists, we form relationships and feel like we love other people when in fact its a selfish act, indulging ourselves in other people's affections, loving them for appearing to love us. I don't agree with it but I reckon that that's what they are getting at - we are just selfish, narcissisctic animals :P |

| Being apart from my boyfriend last summer was a killer for both of us and listening to this song helped me to clarify my emotions and focus on being with him once more. Keane have really been focussing on more global issues like war in the 2nd and 3rd album which I think is a big and impressive step away from conventional music about love etc... I also appreciate the link with the poetry of W B Yeates and I reckon that more of this beautiful, older literature needs to be involved and recognised by music/art lovers today. Oh, and it sounds pretty darn good! |

funny cos i always heard the song "I'm gonna turn up the volume til I can't hear the pain". Even if my ears are decieving me it helps me to appreciate the song in terms of being about our ignorance/denial of the suffereing of others, possibly using music as a distraction or an escape instead of facing the raw facts of the reality in this world. Oh dear, I must be going mad! |

| I saw them perform about 3 years ago and this was the song that stole the show - so emotional and you could feel it from everyone else at the gig. it just goes to show how powerful this song is and how it effects everyone. | |

Well the minute I heard this song it reminded me instantly of my bro who is autistic and "he can play all by himself for many hours...there is nothing from the outside that can touch him". the third verse hits me hard when i think about how someone i love so much will always be so absent even though they are "a part of me". and needless to say there have been some 'battles'! oh, and he spent his life up to the age of about 6 lining up toy cars and animals around the edge of whichever room he was in...it felt really spooky when I first made these links! ...oh and watching my youngest cousin (younger than my bro), coincidently called steven gerrard(!) grow up and learn to speak whilst my brother remained a two/three year old really brought it all home. that's just what this song means to me! |
