Well... like many, many songs - it could be interpreted in many different ways. God, a friend, long-time partner, this song speaks to many people, all at the same time. Personally, I don't believe in god, I believe there is something greater then us, but I don't believe it's god. Whether or not Simon based this song on the poem, is his choice, but the lyrics reach out to many who need/want/ already have had the help to go through the hard times. "I'll carry you, when you need a friend" - The song, would make for an incredible wedding song. |
