Kings of Leon – Revelry Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree with Bduper.
While this song could apply to a girl, there are too many biblical references for it to be just about a girl or only a about a girl.

When he writes a song about a girl it's usually obviously about a girl, Milk, Soft, 17, etc, but songs like Revelry I find are usually twofold or a little too ambiguous. In an interview Nathan said that it was Caleb out of all of them who had demons and when you hear how he sings on Cold Desert especially the last verse about Jesus you can tell he has a bit of a troubled soul. He said himself he could have kicked himself in the face when he heard himself sing 'Jesus don't love me' - the only line from that song that he remembers singing as he was blind drunk when they recorded it, but when he heard it back the next day he wouldn't change it for the world because it was a moment of truth, honesty, sincerity. Drunk as he was the pain came out. You can hear it and the last 2 verses were freestyle. The guy's a bloody poet. Brilliant. And you hear a little bit of that pain and regret in Revelry, too.

Kings of Leon – Charmer Lyrics 17 years ago
Apart from the 'farmer' bit I think it pretty much speaks for itself and I wouldn't be surprised if most of it was literal. The woman's a charmer: so she's probably hot, pretty and tempting - and she keeps looking at him. It freaks him out because a) she's already married to the preacher and b) he's probably tempted.
I agree with 'Brainsinthedirt' about Caleb's scream at the beginning of each song. I think the screams are perfect for this song and reflects exactly his panic and desperation at what she's doing and what he's feeling about it. Brilliant.
I think if Caleb had wanted the scream to be more hardcore or less hardcore than normal he would have done it that way.

This is an ace tune, love the bass, love Nathan's drumming. It all works together so perfectly.

Kings of Leon – California Waiting Lyrics 17 years ago
Why can't it be about both?

He's lying down with a woman listening to Crimson and Clover. That doesn't fit in with railing against what the record execs want of them. There's a reason he mentions this girl and then goes on about what is he giving up by giving in. I think the first verse is double edged. It fits perfectly with losing his virginity. And I'm sure some guys DO care about losing their virginity especially if they have a religious background like Caleb's.
The first verse also clues you in about the second verse which is about their musical success waiting but the record bosses want to change them, control them and the music. And maybe the growing fame, too. He laments about not being able to go back to his lonely life. He can't go back to before he was a virgin - a virgin in the literal sense but also in a symbolic sense before he got caught up with the trappings of success and all it entails.
That's my interpretation anyway :)

California Waiting is in my top 5 KOL songs and dammit it's hard to choose favourites because they've done so many brilliant songs! I do like the original version but I totally get why they did the second version for the album. To me the original seems too light and la la la, Beach Boys style, as nice as it is and apparently the boys didn't like it. The album version is bloody great! I love it. It's faster, more chaotic, dirtier and more raw somehow especially with Caleb's screaming at the end which I love. This versions fits the meaning of the song more and fits on the album better than the original.

Brilliant!
