| Boys Like Girls – The First One Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This one is pretty self-explanatory when you listen to it. It's about a broken heart, obviously. The song begins with the typical symptoms of a break-up: feeling the person around you, endless thoughts about them, disbelief in how the perfect relationship somehow ended. Then we learn that this is the writer's first broken heart, and how it hurts so badly; it's a new hurt that the person doesn't know. They'd do anything to get their love back, and just misses them so badly. This is a great song on the new album, I'm personally in love with it. |

| Boys Like Girls – Someone Like You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The song starts out by describing a person who is lost in the world. They aren't sure where they are ("I couldn't tell you the city I'm in"), and they want someone to help them ("Oh, who can save me now?"). The next part gets to me quite drastically. It has a religious edge to it; I think it's possibly about someone who's losing faith in God, and this person either gives them faith or has the ability to help them find God again. The person has "nothing to lose", and is trying to fight their demons. This person is exactly what they've been hoping for. The song continues to elaborate on how the person is feeling lonely, and wants this new person they know to help them out of this rut, and how they'd follow them, probably in order to be happy and find faith. This is one of my favorites on the new album. BLG still amazes me with their new album. |

| The Postal Service – Nothing Better Lyrics | 16 years ago |
So this song is quite obviously a breakup song. I personally adore it so much because it captures both sides of a breakup. "Will someone please call a surgeon Who can crack my ribs And repair this broken heart That you're deserting for better company?" I love how the song begins, it sets up the whole story perfectly and tells the pain that the guy is going through. He proceeds to say how he can't get over her, and he'll keep trying, if she only tells him what to do. Then the girl begins to sing. She tells him he's stuck in a fantasy world, only seeing what he wants to see. There are so many issues that he's forgetting about, and she's not afraid to point that out to him. I believe I read someone else said something about her being very analytical and harsh about things, and you can tell that just by her voice; the lyrics back that up as well ("I've made charts and graphs that should finally make it clear; I've prepared a lecture on why I have to leave"). She then seems to soften up slightly, and asks him to step aside so she can leave peacefully, but he refuses because he loves her. I thought the line was "Don't you feed me lies about some idealistic future", not "Don't you feed me lines about some idealistic future". Either way, I think it gives the same impression. She's telling him to get out of his fantasy world because things aren't like that. I adore her next line: "Your heart won't heal right if you keep tearing out the sutures". She's telling him to just get over her and not cause himself more hurt. He then admits his mistakes, but promises to be better. She admits she saw something in him, but she says goodbye anyway because things aren't good enough for her. I thought it was "You're had your chance, I'll say goodbye", not "You've had your chance so say goodbye". But that's minor anyway. |

| Owl City – The Saltwater Room Lyrics | 16 years ago |
So I read through everyone's interpretations, and I think every single portrayal is pretty accurate. Honestly, with these lyrics, it can be about falling in love or falling out of love. I personally view it as falling in love, but there being distance and therefore it's difficult. The couple loves each other but they recognize that it's hard and everything seems to be too difficult to make things work since they can't see each other much, but the few times they see each other make them happier, and so they keep trying. The song addresses all the issues they feel, the conflicts they go through. However, since there are so many issues and just the way the song is worded, it can definitely describe falling out of love and how they try so desperately to go back to how things were before. I love songs like this because the lyrics can be interpreted so many ways to fit whatever you're feeling. I don't think anyone is really wrong when it comes to lyric interpretation; it depends on how you personally view it. |

| Senses Fail – Lost and Found Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song honestly isn't too tough to analyze. It's about someone whose been searching and trying to find something to make him happy, something to live for. He has nothing and feels alone, perhaps more so now than he ever had been. By the part about his last breath, it sounds like the person decided to take their own life, or at least attempt it. Quite a sad song, but so amazing. |

| Senses Fail – Every Day Is A Struggle Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Like some people, I adore this part: "I love you so damn much; I'll even start to pray. I'll put my faith in all your bullshit if it means you'll stay." When I first heard those lyrics, I had been absentmindedly listening to this song for the first time, so my interpretation of this part doesn't fit the whole song but it fit my life. I had recently been dumped by a really religious guy and I'm not religious. While our relationship had been getting worse, I had rethought things and decided to be more religous. I hadn't gotten a chance to tell him though, so who knows if that would have changed things. Either way, I adore that part of the song because it fits that part of my situation so perfectly. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Crooked Teeth Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is really powerful and meaningful to me; I interpret it as a song about a guy who realized that he began a relationship that would never survive. Something similar to this happened to me, so I view it as the guy asked her out perhaps because he heard she liked him, and maybe he thought he liked her. But of course, he soon realized the feelings weren't that deep and he started a relationship that was destined to fail. The part about the bar might be implying that the relationship was based more upon lust than any real love. |

| Automatic Loveletter – Make-Up Smeared Eyes Lyrics | 16 years ago |
My interpretation of those lines is something like that some of the story occured in a car. Such as, he may have been driving her home when he broke her heart. Or she could have taken a drive to calm herself after she realized that he was just using her. "This drama sat shot gun." May just refer to the part of the story that took place in a car, as I said above. Or it could be more metaphorical, as that the drama was always beside her. "My eyes rained like autumn." Self-explanatory; she cried over him. "Only the glove box knows how the story goes." The end of the story took place in a car, or she poured out her tears as she took a drive. Or I realize now that maybe that's just going along with the metaphor above. Perhaps it could represent that she's trying to tuck away her feelings? |

| Automatic Loveletter – Parker Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song took a whole new meaning to me last Monday, when my boyfriend broke up with me. Coincidentially enough, his name was Parker. This song was most certainly on repeat. This song tells about a girl who was dating a boy named Parker that she really cared about, and vice versa. But things somehow got messed up in their relationship, and she said and did things she very much regretted. Once it ended, she got upset and didn't know how to handle her out of control emotions, so she cried and got angry, and that of course was the post-break up stress. That's what the first verse tells us. The chorus goes on to show that she's trying to make him remember the way they used to be, and how great it was. She doesn't blame anyone for the breakup but herself. In the next verse "sworn off blue lips" refers to her still wanting him, but she can't have him. And I think the "letters I rewrite explaining how to fall in love" shows her trying to figure out what love really is, and wondering if they were really in love, and trying to get him to fall for her once she can't get over him. I think the "We'll play stop and go, but it feels just like freeze tag" shows that things go from being good and bad and from blaming one to blaming the other, and just that everything is a mess. "I'm naked once so don't think twice" is a line that I couldn't ever understand in the song, but I now interpret it as her exposing herself. Maybe she doesn't want him to turn back ("so don't think twice") now that he's hurt her so bad, because she can't trust him now. I could go into detail about every line, but most of it is pretty self-explanatory. Such a marvelous song, but so painful once it happens to you. |

| PlayRadioPlay! – I Am A Pirate You Are A Princess Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I haven't analyzed this song to death like I've done to a lot of songs. But the meaning I've gotten from this song is of a young, innocent love. They're perfect for each other and they aren't deeply involved in a sexual or serious way. They have a playful, sweet love that's too perfect to ruin. | |
| New Found Glory – Hold My Hand Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The lyrics are really direct and easy to understand. I don't take it as a stalkerish song at all, however, although I understand why people do. I see it as possibly a guy whose fallen for a close friend and won't tell her about it, but these are his hidden thoughts, feelings and dreams about her. I suppose the surface meaning is just of a guy that's freakishly obsessed with a girl, but I personally think it's meant to be cuter than that; a lot more romantic. The lyrics are cheesy, but I like 'em :) |
| Anberlin – A Day Late Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| To me, this sounds like a guy and a girl secretly loved each other in the past but they never admitted it. The guy got over it, and both of them found new loves and moved on. Now, however, the girl is back in the guy's life, and he's remembering what he really liked about her in the past, but he knows it's too late for them to be together, although she doesn't want to accept that. She's his "day late friend" because they can't be together. | |
| Skye Sweetnam – Babydoll Gone Wrong Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The song and the video are both pretty eerie. The literal lyrics are kind of creepy; about a really different doll from the usual type. But if you think about the lyrics, it could more represent her trying to be original and different. More rebellish than she's expected to be and able to be independent. |
| Skye Sweetnam – Music Is My Boyfriend Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't like this song as much as I like some of Skye's stuff, but it's an oddly catchy song. Pretty much, she doesn't need boys because she has music. A good song for someone whose recently gone through a breakup or something that hurt her over a boy. |
| Skye Sweetnam – Billy S Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Jeez, I don't see why people take this song so seriously. Sure, it's a bit immature, but it's so true for so many teenagers. Those are my exact thoughts when I have to wake up in the morning. Sure, we're lucky to have school in this country, but teenagers don't realize that because we've never lived any sort of life without the advantages we have here. So we don't know how lucky we truly are. I take this song as a fun and catchy tune, and that's how I enjoy it. |
| Skye Sweetnam – Human Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this song mostly talks about human tendencies. To give in to peer pressure, or what we see around us. We have to be careful and not necessarily give in to the latest trend or what people around us are telling us to do. We're "separated by our thoughts", and that's all that truly makes us different. The lyrics mostly speak for themselves. | |
| Fall Out Boy – You're Crashing, but You're No Wave Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is most definitely one of my favorites by Fall Out Boy, no question about it. Probably because I really love songs that tell stories like this. This song really tells about the tension in a serious court case. It sounds to me like a young boy has thrown his life away by committing a crime and getting caught. He tries to save his life by lying his crime away ("Only breathing with the aid of denial"). But in the end, the jury sees through it and he's found guilty. |

| Taylor Swift – Love Story Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The lyrics tell a fairy tale set in the time of princesses and the like. The song speaks for itself; a girl falls in love with a boy that she meets at a party, and she knows the love is real love. They are a real-life Romeo and Juliet. Their love is forbidden, for her father doesn't approve. So she runs off to be with him because she's willing to sacrifice anything for her prince and her love story. In the end, she finally gets her happy ending because her daddy comes around and she's allowed to be with her true love. After seeing the video, I think it's also a dream of any girl today. To find a real boy, one who will be her prince charming and really love her. To find a love that's worth fighting for, because the boy is her dream Romeo. |

| Taylor Swift – Forever and Always Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| She fell in love and he said he loved her. She remembers everything about their relationship but it ended, for whatever reason. She's really upset and can't understand what went wrong. Did she do something? She realizes he wasn't right for her, or at least that he was a jerk to her ("You didn't mean it baby, I don't think so"). She's trying to let go of things ("Back up, baby back up, did you forget everything?"). But the past still haunts her and causes her pain. | |
| Taylor Swift – You Belong with Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The lyrics pretty much explain themselves. She's in love with some guy, probably a really close guy friend ("Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find, what you're looking for has been here the whole time", and other various lines). She knows how much better off he'd be with her, but he's dating a popular girl. She doesn't understand why he'd pick her because she's done nothing but been there for him. |

| All Time Low – Remembering Sunday Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song tells about a boy who has become extremely depressed after losing the girl he loved. She committed suicide ("I'm not coming back, I've done something so terrible"..."Keeping an eye on the world, from so many thousands of feet off the ground"..."I'm at home in the clouds, towering over your head"). There are a lot of recollections on his part on the past ("Remembering Sunday, he falls to his knees. They had breakfast together, but two eggs don't last like the feeling of what he needs"..."Now this place seems familiar to him. She pulled on his hand with a devilish grin"). He tries desperately to find her, and my favorite verse tells how everyone believed she left and how he knew nothing good could have happened: "The neighbors said she moved away Funny how it rained all day I didn't think much of it then But it's starting to all make sense Oh, I can see now that all of these clouds Are following me in my desperate endeavor To find my whoever, wherever she may be." This song is most definitely one of my favorites. The lyrics tell a beautiful, tragic story of lost love. And the musical quality of it is excellent. If you listen to it, you can tell the featured instruments and sounds at certain parts build up until the climax of the song. This song always makes me want to cry, it's beautiful. |

| Automatic Loveletter – Make-Up Smeared Eyes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Such a touching song, and I think so many girls can relate to it. She got into a relationship and she really fell for the guy. But he didn't really love her, he was just using her, most likely for sex ("we only made out, you never kissed me"). This is her admitting how much she truly loved him and how he's made a permanent mark in her. She doesn't think it's fair that she got so attached and he never cared. She's so heartbroken but she's forcing herself to act happy so he doesn't see her pain. She still cares about him, but she's lost all trust in him, so she's going to get over him ("So I'll forget you, I'll wash your t-shirt and kill the pillow, and cut you out of pictures"). |

| Tokio Hotel – Don't Jump Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song pretty much speaks for itself, when you listen to the lyrics. Their close friend is about to commit suicide and they want them to rethink it and save their life. They know suicide isn't the answer and they just want the person alive. They're terrified because they've come upon their friend right before they jump and they're desperate. They're promising them that, although they're unhappy, they've had good times together and it will all be ruined if they jump. I find the last line to be extremely powerful and I always want to cry when I hear it. "And if all that can't hold you back, then I'll jump for you." The pain would be unbearable and they'll give up their own life because they couldn't stand the loss of such a good friend. |

| Senses Fail – Calling All Cars Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I personally think the song is about suicide, specifically after some sort of heartbreak. "Calling all cars; we've got another victim 'Cause my love has become an affliction What did you expect from me? What did you expect from me?" The person pretty much has gotten their heart broken and they're becoming a "victim", of depression, I'm sure. "I'm sorry but I think I failed to mention That I lied at my very first confession What did you expect from me? What did you expect from me?" They feel like they've been a failure for a very long time, not just recently but since their "very first confession". "'Cause this has been building Since I have been breathing And I know how it's going to end." Again, the things happening to them are nothing new. And they know what's coming up, and that it will all end soon. "So will you scatter my ashes where they won't be found? I kept my word when I swore that I would let you down And now that I'm gone, Try to forget me and just move on. So will you scatter my ashes where they won't be found? I kept my word and you hate me for it now But you knew all along Try to forget me and just move on." They already have decisions of what they want done with their ashes once they die. They're expecting the person who hurt them to feel some sort of pain and they want that person to do them a favor by scattering their ashes. They just want to be forgotten after this whole ordeal because, again, they feel like a failure. And they also feel like their death was to be anticipated because they already "swore that [they] would let you down". "Oh my dear, what have I gone and done now? It's curtain call, I'm about to take my last bow What did you expect from me? What did you expect from me?" Again, they're "about to take [their] last bow". Pretty self-explanatory, if you think about it as a suicide. "Without giving away the entire ending I've ruined the evening again." They feel like a failure and they know that their death is going to have consequences. [chorus] "I don't have love left inside, inside And I don't have love left inside, inside" Again with the heartbreak. "Are you desperate for an answer? I don't have an ounce of good left in me now That's why I walked out." They know they'll let the person down if they keep going on. [chorus] "I am not the one that you should blame So take what I left you for the pain I am not the one that you should blame So take what I left you for the pain And do your best to forget my name" It's not their fault that everything built up to create an unbearable pain for them. They want the person to just forget them. "Take what I left you for the pain"; I'm not sure if that means possibly that they want the person to suffer as well, contradicting their opinion that they want the person to forget them as well. That could mean that maybe, while they don't want to cause pain to people, they want to be remembered after their death and for people to realize they actually cared about them. And maybe that means they do want to cause the pain, they just don't want to admit it. |

| The Spill Canvas – The Tide Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I interpret this song two ways; the literal way (to an extent) and the way it relates to me. Of course, it can be interpreted many more ways because of the whole metaphorical content of the song. The literal way, is that there are three siblings that are trying to understand love, or escape it, or find it. They all have different reactions to their same experience, which is their mother's broken heart over being left by her husband (their father). That could also be interpreted as their father's death but as some people pointed out, the mother is so against love that that seems unlikely. The children lose themselves in their pain because they can't bear it at "their age of fifteen". It could be that they run away from home to get away from it, or possibly they kill themselves over the pain, or just they lose all sense of themselves in the process of trying to deal with the pain. But their mother finally realizes all they've been through and how experiences like that affect a child so greatly. My personal interpretation is a bit of a stretch. Since the lyrics refer to the three children as fifteen as a whole, it's easier for me to picture them as the three different parts of one person. Veronica is the seemingly bold part, that shows confidence and beauty while she's secretly insecure and inexperienced. Vada is the part that comes out when they're alone, that secretly longs to be more like her outward appearance. She's inexperienced and admits it, and embraces her inner child while wanting to grow up. And Dade represents the thoughtful part that thinks about the pain and realizes what it does to them. The experience is that the mother becomes too caught up in her own issues and doesn't realize that her child(ren) are so greatly affected by the bad example of love they have grown up with. And it hurts them to see their mother telling them not to find someone to love, because they can't understand why she would say that. And eventually, because of their selfish mother, they lose it and just give up. I personally imagine that "the tide came in and swept her three into the ocean" represents something more permanent than just a loss of self. So I believe suicide may very well be a good interpretation of that, as it could be a realistic reaction to excessive pain. Sorry for the mile-long interpretation. |
| Paramore – Crushcrushcrush Lyrics | 17 years ago |
My interpretation of this song is that she knew a guy she liked, liked her back but was shoved behind lies. Whether it be an ex-boyfriend, someone she had a fling with, or just someone she liked, it would all fit. She cares about him and she can tell he likes her, but his friends or some other interfering force "taped over [his] mouth, scribbled out the truth with their lies". My favorite line? "'Cause I'd rather waste my life pretending, than have to forget you for one whole minute." <3 Amazing. |
| Paramore – My Heart Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I understand why people could interpret this as a religious song, but that's not what I think of when I hear the song. I'm not religious so I interpret it differently. I just think it's about someone who's been lost in life and not really known where they're going or what they're doing. They thought they were fine on their own, but then they find that certain someone and they know they can't go on without them. And this song just expresses how much they truly want, need and love that person. |
