| because they can't have them anymore. | |
| Bloc Party – Blue Light Lyrics | 12 years ago |

My interpretation of 'bluest light' is this. The person who they are in the relationship is like their light, but their light makes the person sad. |

| Little Mix – These Four Walls Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| i believe it is about losing someone close to you through death. | |
| Bastille – Daniel in the Den Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Gotta be referring to something biblical, not sure what it means overall. | |
| Bring Me the Horizon – Antivist Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I see this as being about the Pope or some other popular religious figure. | |
| The Devil Wears Prada – Gauntlet of Solitude Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| i think its about trying to get rid of the negative qualities that you should try not to have as a christian e.g. pride | |
| Asking Alexandria – Morte et Dabo Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| that doesn't make sense. he said it has no reference to christianity yet in the song he talks of heaven, hell and a 'son'. if that's not aimed at christianity then that's really weird. | |

i have mixed feelings about this track which may cause controversy. when i first listened to this i thought it was superb. the whole sound of the track is just awesome. then i looked up the lyrics. i think asking alexandria should have been a bit more careful with their wording. they need to remember that a certain portion of their fans are going to have some sort of religious belief. now, this doesn't mean that they should not express their atheistic views, but i feel they should have been more careful with this song not to sound offensive to those who are religious. it's okay to say that you don't believe in god, i'm not shunning that. but to a religious person the deep and gory lyrics of: "Bitch, I'll fucking find you! I'll tear yours eyes right out of your self-righteous face Lord, I'll fucking find you! I'll dig your tongue out of your rancid fucking mouth" is not going to be very nice. to a religious person god is everything and god is a personal companion almost. i'm all for freedom of speech, but when it turns to slightly offensive i wonder if it's worth taking the risk of losing any of their fans who may have a religion. i don't type this saying that i do or do not have a religion. i just speak my mind as someone who thinks that bands need to be careful what they're saying. |

| Architects – Learn To Live Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I think "them" could be like a bully or someone who has put you down "Pick yourself up, Stop loving, start living Don't get held back" - get back on track from the abuse, don't get caught up in anything but living your life "That's where they want you to be" - the bully/abuser wants you to be held back from living "Every time they pushed us aside" - they being abuser, us meaning anyone who has been abused "We got back up again, Yeah we made it through the rain, Just to live another day without them" - you can get through this and move on. I might not be right but yeah. |

| Foals – What Remains Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Philippakis has never had therapy on his own, but says some of the lyrics in the album's closing track, What Remains, refer to a period of family therapy, which involved three psychiatrists staring at the Philippakises from behind glass: "And you'd feel the pressure from behind the glass, being relayed into the room … It felt like being in quicksand." He says he found the process frustrating and pointless, and though he doesn't want to reveal more about what he calls "family mental illness", he says he is haunted by the fear of turning into his father, and repeating the cycle of abandonment. "I do look up to him, but my mother says that I've inhabited his [emotional detachment] to try and understand him," he says. "The person you least understand in the family or is most distant, you become them. And that's how the cycle continues. You flip the damage on to yourself." However, songwriting is therapy, and Philippakis says singing about his troubles every night on stage makes him feel better. "It feels voodoo, like an exorcism," he says. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/may/06/foals-total-life-forever |

| Foals – What Remains Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
"'cause I've been to the darkest place I know so you, my dear, shouldn't fear what lies below It's just bones" and then "I've been to the only place I know it's just bones So you, my dear, shouldn't fear what lies below it's just bones" haunting. so comforting though for depression. i have this on repeat. |

| Foals – This Orient Lyrics | 15 years ago |

the west has often been associated with the 'new' and the up and coming, or development. i think when it says 'it's your heart that gives me this western feeling', it means that someone has helped him to feel new again. just a thought. |

| Defeater – MoonShine Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| i'm guessing it's about a guy who did something wrong/bad back at home and so he now has to keep moving on and travelling away from the area and the situation. | |
| Defeater – Carrying Weight Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
i think it's about someone who is homeless and looking for work. not sure about the soap box part? maybe he is remembering home cause also it says about praying about his mother being okay? |
|
| Defeater – Prophet In Plain Clothes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
yeah it sounds so much like him! i think it's good though because i love bright eyes and i love defeater, so it's like a merged bonus! |
|
| Defeater – The Bite and Sting Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| it's about war and being in the war. | |
| Defeater – The Red White and Blues Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| i think its about a son going to war and wanting to make his deceased parents proud of him. also he is doing it for his country (red, white and blue being the colours on the american flag). | |
| Defeater – Nameless Streets Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
i think it's about a son leaving home, messing up and then returning home, but with new habits - drinking? and he is not popular with the elderly (?) in the town - "she gets a stiff hand from the old like the bourbon he's been drinking." |

| Defeater – Everything Went Quiet Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| brothers playing around together and challenging one another to see who is the best of them both! | |
| Defeater – Blessed Burden Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
such a sad song. it's about an abusive relationship and disagreement within it - the father doesn't want the newborn baby, which is his. the woman cries out to god for help but it seems she has no luck with her pleas. the man senses this and mocks her. |
|
| Defeater – Beggin' In The Slums Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| this is quite obvious but i reckon it's about poverty and begging. | |
| Defeater – Forgiver Forgetter Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
i think it's about family conflict. the father is a hypocrite and blames the mother for financial problems, but actually he is a drunkard and a hypocrite. "oh, well the money's all gone and she can't pay the rent with that needle in her arm." "what did she ever do to you, but raise us by herself when you were too drunk to come through?" one of the son's hates and his angry with his father... "i never wanted to kill a man, like i want to kill you man" and general comment about the gravestone. the other stops things from getting out of hand... "his brother at his side screaming "this isn't your fight"" eventually the son gets so frustrated with his father that he strikes him over the head many times and kills him. "he caught his eye as he took his last breath and that vice went to his head again and again. "dear god what have you done?" cried out his mother. "that devil drunk was no father." his mother and brother are dismayed. "dear god what have you done?" cried out his mother. that spiteful stare of his brother. "i ain't no forgiver or forgetter. I'll make you pay for this when you least expect it." the son simply walks off. he washed the blood from his hands, kissed his mother and stepped into cold night air. |

| Bring Me the Horizon – Anthem Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
taken from the album cover: this is an anthem, so fucking sing a dedication to the end of everything someone call an ambulance, i got wounds to attend someone call a doctor, i fear this is the end this happens all the time this happens every day but i never seem to quit the wolves never stay at bay i hate to say i told you so, but fuck it, i told you so don't say a word, i already know someone call an exorcist and help me kill this curse i can't stop the bleeding and it's only getting worse get the fuck up this is it, the sound of giving in yeah, get the fuck up this is it the end of everything tastes so bitter, feels so sweet lost in a dream, never fell asleep i've come back to old remedies __________ my first impressions of this were that its a song about self harm? |

| The Boy Least Likely To – Cuddle Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
the lyrics to me show a person who has gone through something that they didn't want to go through: "I saw things in the darkness that I didn't want to see" and they don't want to feel hurt ever again: "I hurt the things I love because It stops them hurting me" they feel like they want rescuing because they also feel out of their comfort zone: "I'm feeling homesick I'm covered in seaweed Washed up in the sunshine On an oily pebble beach So rock me and roll me Back into the sea Over broken seashells So I can go to sleep" they just want to blank it all out and feel at peace again: "Smother me Squeeze the air out of my cheeks Pump me full of chemicals And put me back to sleep" that's what the song means to me :) |

| Kele Okereke – Walk Tall Lyrics | 15 years ago |

to me this song symbolises a new start in something. for me, i'm just about to go to uni after a crap gap year of illness. i'm better now and this song represents a new chapter in my life :) THIS STARTS NOW (uni, new chapter) WALK TALL, WALK TALL! (i can do anything!) |

| Hockey – Too Fake Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| i think it's about someone who feels they have to do everything others want (perhaps to fit in), which they really cannot help themselves from doing. | |
| Late of the Pier – Random Firl Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| it's simply about thinking that life might be too difficult but then managing to think more positively, like perhaps everything's not so bad, it was just the weather bringing me down. | |
| M.I.A. – Paper Planes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
it's actually "I'LL fly like paper, get high like planes" if you read the pamphlet/album cover in the album that's evidence for that :] |
|
| The Kooks – Sway Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i agree with DanielNZ completely. maybe "i need your sway cause you always pay for it" is maybe something to do with needing the person around because they always pay the [speaker] back... in a sort of positive way. i dunno about that line but definitely agree with DanielNZ, such a beautiful song to illustrate that. and twilight, agree with others, cut the crap. |

| Nirvana – Something in the Way Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i'm not so sure this song should be taken literally. he did stay under a bridge but i think this has a deeper meaning (that's what it means to me anyways). "Underneath the bridge, the tarp has sprung a leak" -- he is feeling low and in a dark place, as if he is underneath a bridge. something else has come up and it keeps bugging him, like a drip. "The animals I've trapped have all become my pets" -- all the negative comments or habits he's accumulated have become so familiar that they become his; like pets they are always around, perhaps the word 'pet' meaning best, like pet hate. "And I'm living off of grass and drippings from the ceiling" -- he's living off of the bare minimum, or perhaps even off of weed and those annoying little drips i mentioned earlier. "It's okay to eat fish, 'cause they don't have any feelings" -- this is maybe literally what he means. or perhaps he means it's okay to be harsh to weak people cause it doesn't seem to matter in the end. "Something in the way Mmm-hmm" -- of him becoming happy again. i am not sure but i always like to take it this way! i know he wasn't unhappy until the very end of his life but it might not be about him, it might just be a general song. but we shall never know! |
