Everclear – Amphetamine Lyrics 17 years ago
Great song. I am thinking one possibility is that the individual who
'met her at a party and took her home'
is infatuated with her and wants to get her healthy. In the middle of the song there is a turning point where she attempts sobriety and I suppose achieves it for some amount of time (lets not kid ourselves, this party girl probably wasn't sober for six months, cynical old me, but it fits with the lyrical structure that flip flops indicating her current situation but always mentioning that she looks happier in another world, life, which Im sure she indulges in, back and forth, just like the song structure)
'six months clean living sober and right/ doctors say she'll be alright"
with that established the ending verses take on a very different meaning, the girl found something new, a guy who cares about her.....
but that is far from the case, I think that the last two stanzas stylistically break from the pattern set by the rest of the song, and the song is now about a guy who meets amphetamines at a party, characterized by amy "saddest girl Ive ever known"
He seems to be familiar with her (the amphetamines) and he is because he was the one married to the girl addicted to amphetamines. I think the constant "happy in another life" after the line about "doctors say she'll be alright" indicates her death. Now this man only has his drugs to tell him everything will be alright but he never will be, cycle of drug addiction is brutal man. Maybe this was a stretch, but to summarize, the song is from the perspective of a boyfriend/husband narrating his girlfriend/wife's life addicted to drugs and the struggles she encounters while cloaking her in a sort of mysticism that is very surreal and helps to exquisitely frame her beauty and spunk as being in the past until the last two stanzas arrive and we are pulled back completely and given the shaky proposition that "everything will be alright". Peace.

Marcy Playground – Sex And Candy Lyrics 17 years ago
This is a beautiful song. Lyrics are concise yet heavy with meaning. You could very well cast a dim light on this song and subscribe to the misleading view that it solely smacks of sexual deviancy. I mean its all well and good to recognize the sexual implications here and it is certainly a key aspect of the song but I see some people getting hung up on the whole child molester idea, tying in the name of the band "Marcy Playground" as part of their argument. That is stretching it fellas, I'm sorry, this song clearly conjures up the image of a mildly disgruntled and disoriented man checking things out, too much on his mind, hanging out in the city after he catches his girl cheating, replaying the incident over and over. The tone of the song delicately picks up the surreal world he must be in through the down tempo guitar play and lethargic vocal delivery, which I find to be truly breathtaking. They utilize 4 very simple chords and a very catchy lick during the chorus to carry the entire song, certainly in keeping with many many other hit 90's songs; however Marcy does it better here I must admit. A sound that is sparse, yet completely immersive; mellow, yet hopelessly desperate. Makes me love 90's music more than I would prefer too. Peace.
