and he says, "youre seeing a side of me I wish noone ever would"... this is true there are bad parts of every person and to truly love that person you must love the good and bad parts. Though you may not agree or be attracted to those bad things, it helps to love that person fully, good and bad, beautiful and ugly. Im talking about bad habits, maybe external imperfections, and even character flaws. Try hard and be amazed by the diamond that is formed. |

Coal is the beginning of the relationship and is true. Also when he says "keep your eyes on your part and leave me alone to mine", this is important - keep your criticisms to yourself unless they are well thought out and spoken about in an intelligent and loving way which seeks to contruct not destroy the other person. He says "your part" which means that there are different roles in any relationship, and if you try your best to just do your role no matter how hard it becomes, don't cave in and pick at the other person's role - stick to your role no matter what and let God work on the other person. |

| Dave Matthews – Save Me Lyrics

This song is clearly about Jesus's run in with the despicable devil in the desert. Jesus speaks clearly and beautifully while the Devil questions whether or not Jesus can save Him or anybody for that matter. Since Jesus doesn't save those who don't really desire to be saved (the Devil was just trying to tempt Jesus, He didn't love Christ, the Devil is proud and Hates God who is His enemy). You see in order for the Devil to succeed, which He didn't, He would have had to weakend Christ's faith in Himself to save the world, which He did. Christ finished the task and the Devil failed. Since the Devil knew he was a failure, he tried to make it as bad as possible on Jesus hence the gruesome beatings (to say the least). The whole song is from the Devil's perspective and through His lips. Not that Dave is the Devil, but He has a keen understanding of the Devil's ways to try and weaken faith, and will use little ways of rhetoric and 'statements' to lessen faith in a mighty God who's ways are unseen by the lost. Jesus was not lost and was strong, so strong that He bore the weight of all the sin in the world. It is a catchy song that riles up our emotions, but don't be drawn to it as a song of worship but rather a reflection. It is a fact that Christ saves, but we must understand why and how to fully appreciate the need He satisfies - the hole in our soul that He fills. God bless you in your walk. |
