| Belle & Sebastian – There's Too Much Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This song reminds me of that person with a huge heart, who cares a lot about people, but no one returns the favour of caring for them. |

| The Decemberists – The Sporting Life Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I'm pretty sure this song is about soccer. But it also sounds like high school sports. Perhaps high school soccer? I imagine this song happening in that slow slightly dazed moment, just after he realizes how injured he is. On top of that, one of the things he takes in is his girlfriend with another guy, a rival, no less. That's got to add to the pain. In the song, there are three main things he notices: His coach and father's disapointment, his girlfriend with the captain of the other team, and the crowd. There's a really sharp contrast between the cheery instrumentation and what the song's about... personal humilation and (potentially) heart break. I also believe the narrator has sustained a rather serious and life-altering injury. "And father had had such hopes/For a son who would take the ropes/And fulfill all his old athletic aspirations/But apparently now there's some complications." Based on this lyric, I gather that the father, and maybe the athlete aswell, wanted to advance his career. There wouldn't be many complications if the injury was something that could be easily healed. 'Complications' that would prevent him from achieving 'athletic aspirations' would have to be a pretty greivous wound. I love the lyric, "They condescend, and fix on me a frown." |

| Elton John – Your Song Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Ah... love this song. It's for everyone. The last lyric (to me) is a David Bowie reference... So excuse me forgetting but these things I do You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue Anyway the thing is what I really mean Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen One eye of David's is green, and the other is blue. It's slightly out of context... But I feel like since this is my song, it can mean to me whatever I want it to mean. It does have multiple meanings, though... for me. And for everyone else. So everyone else's meaning adds up to multiple meanings... not just one. David Bowie and Elton John go together in my mind... and echo each other, but contradict at the same time. |

| David Bowie – Kooks Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| No one's really sure what it was over, he doesn't talk about it. He was punched in both eyes and it was uncertain that he would ever regain his vision; he was in the hospital for a while. | |

I thought "Don't put an English voice" was a screwy lyric... "Junk boats and english boys" makes a lot more sense=) |

| Elton John – Your Song Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Out of curiousity, does anyone else think "You see, I can't remember if they're green or they're blue" could possibly be a David Bowie reference? I know it's not really, and it would be out of context, but I think it coculd be. |

| Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog – Everything You Ever Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
He's still in the ELE, and he didn't imagine it. It's Billy saying he doesn't feel a thing. Dr. Horrible had won everything he ever wanted, a place in the ELE, victory over Capt. Hammer, etc. But he had lost the only thing he truly loved, which was Penny. Billy doesn't feel the victory, because he's so heart-broken in the last scene. |

| of Montreal – Du Og Meg Lyrics | 16 years ago |

So this lovely song is obviously about Kevin Barnes meeting Nina Twin. I love how this song also tells about how they helped each other. He swept away her darkness, she taught him what was real. The last lyric, "They were married in the summer," sort of ties into "Oslo in the Summertime" I think. If he (Kevin Barnes) hopped on a plain after she (Nina) split, presumably back to Norway, it would make sence that he followed her there and that's where they were married, in Oslo, Norway, in the summertime. Is the evil empire America? that would make sense. o.O |

| Le Loup – Outside of This Car, the End of the World! Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This song is great, I love it. The beats are really nice. I think it's about people together in a car, and nothing seems to exist outside of the car. They're not really going anywhere, just driving around aimlessly together. The world outside of the car sounds slightly appocallyptic. "Bruised in orange light" sounds like the light coming from fires. "Smoke and curls" also brings to mind images of fire. "Screaming bells" might be sirens and alarms. I don't know about the kingdom, in the bright blue heaven, it probly refers to the album's title, "The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations' Millenium General Assmembly." This song sort of reminds me of something my friend said once. "Let's find a Jeep, pick up some friends, and drive to Canada and stay in a cabin for a week." |

| of Montreal – Brush Brush Brush Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think of Montreal wrote this song for a segment on Yo Gabba Gabba (spell?) It's to promote teeth brushing and oral health. It's really up-beat, it's a fun song. My favorite part is the little(brush, brush) in the background after the first chorus of pearly whites and a healthy smile. |

| of Montreal – The Actor's Opprobrium Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I always thought he was talking about stage acting. Hmm. Guess he's not. I like the lyric, "Yes, I want to be a star, but maybe that's going to far." It's one of my favorite lyrics ever. I think he dies. |

| The Beatles – Paperback Writer Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
this song is about someone who wants a break as a paperback writer. but i don't think it's just about the one man in the song who wants to be an author. it's about anyone who wants to be something, anything. it's about anyone with a dream. =) wow, that sounds like a hallmark card. |

| of Montreal – Art Snob Solutions Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
the song is telling about Art Snob's attitudes. here is an example of an Art Snob attitude: You are a huge Beatles fan. You're in love with them. So you're talking to someone about the Beatles. And they say, "I've never heard of the Beatles. Are they good?" What would you're reaction be? you would probably be shocked, flabergasted, and maybe, you might warp it into a personal insult. This is how Art Snobs feel about people who aren't either fellow Art Snobs, Artists, Musicians, Art History Buffs, Art Collecters, and et cetera. so this is what this song is about. Everyone, grab your knives, we're gonna kill all the people who don't know anything about art! . |

| of Montreal – Good Morning Mr. Edminton Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
A lot of you are arguing over whether or not the narrator is the kidnapper. he probly isn't, but he may be. When he says, "Remember how THEY vowed to let that go If your families paid the ransom Well, I think you both should know That that's not THEIR intention," that may mean that there is more then one kidnapper since he's usning plurals. So maybe the narrator helped kidnap Mr. Edminton and Mr. Ledingworth, but he had other plans in his mind other than the ransom that the other kidnappers want. i.e., the job at the factory. So he's going traitor to set these guys free. at the end, he would have to escape too, so that's why he says,"Hurry before it's to late for us to escape." |

| Futurama – Robot Hell Lyrics | 17 years ago |

| Gorillaz – Starshine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| the first time I heard this song it was like 11 pm and I got so creeped out. Especially cuz I live really close to a big shopping mall, and its light drowns out the starshine. starshine never does find me. and it's so messed up, cuz it's like that all over. You can't see the freaking stars. Starshine never does find us. I don't even know what the big dipper looks like. and if you do see a star, you dont even know if it is a star, or if it's a satalite. | |
| The Beatles – Blue Jay Way Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is so amazing. just the atmosphere it creates is great. You feel like there's a fog hanging around you. not necessarily a bad fog, but just like, you can think when you here this song, because you're surrounded by fog on your own little island, and no one can reach you. | |
| The Flaming Lips – It's Summertime (Throbbing Orange Pallbearers) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Excellant song. it has good music. but it's kind of sad. this song reminds me of how lucky I am. Wow that sounds so effing mushy. but it's true. | |
| Cake – Friend Is A Four Letter Word Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is a very good song. I see it as the person singing is ending a friendship and losing a friend, but I can also see it as he wants the friend to be more than a friend, that the four letter word is love. I can really connect to this song both ways. I had a bunch of "friends" that weren't really being really good friends, so I was really only praying that the words they would soon be saying might betray the way they felt about me. But they never did, so my four letter word was 'ends'. But now, what the song means to me is the second meaning. Nouff said about that. But yeah, I love this song. It's pretty cool. | |
