Wiz Khalifa – Fly Solo Lyrics 15 years ago
Completely feeling this song right now, especially.... "It hurts when it don't last, no easy way saying bye, Imma spread my wings and head for the sky and I, fly solo, and I, fly solo, and I, fly solo, and I, fly solo, and I..."

Aesop Rock – Daylight Lyrics 17 years ago
This was one of three songs I chose for an English project Junior year of High School in 03' With that said, I think that day I turned at least 4~6 cats to underground who would have had no other means at coming across this talented artist. We had recently finished reading The Great Gatsby and Death of the Salesman so I thought this song would suite well.
At least one other person was on the same train of thought as me, I thought this song was/is about the American Dream.

"I walk the block with a halo and a stick poking your patience"
He's poking fun at "us," who have become complacent in life, you putting as much money as your company will match in your 401k? Do you have your retirement planned out? When are you going to purchase your first home? The American Dream, white picket fence, wife/husband and 2.5 kids.
"Took an early retirement pick a dream
...
Now it's an honor and I spell it with the 'H' I stole from heritage"
I was still influenced from the book The Great Gatsby when I was using this song as part of my project, so this line made me think of Inherited money, "Old Money." Something you didn't achieve on your own merit, but something that was handed down to you. Going further in the song though it changes up it's meaning to me.
...
And I'm sleeping now (Wow!) And the settlers laugh
You won't be laughing when your covered wagons crash
You won't be laughing when the buses drag your brother's flags into rags
You won't be laughing when your front lawn is spangled with epitaphs
You won't be laughing
"And the settlers laugh." hits me hard in this song, the settlers had the original "American Dream," freedom.
Now, I he's poking fun at our mediocrity, go take your early retirement, pick a dream, build your white picket fence.

"And I hang my boots to rest when I'm impressed
So I triple knot them then I forgot them
This origami dream is beautiful
but man those wings will never leave the ground
Without a feather and a lottery ticket, now settle down"
You're dreams ain't shit but a piece of paper made to look more beautiful than what it really is, so chill.
