| I dated a girl for 4 months. We had a long history knowing each other for 6 years. Those 4 months we were together were PERFECT everyday was amazing like we were out of a story book. One day she just wasn't happy anymore nothing I did seemed to make her mood any better and I couldn't understand what was happening. She decided we had to end it. Everytime I would talk to her she was either to busy suddenly driving was a problem to talk and she was always nasty. 4 months later I hear the album Something To Write Home About for the first time and Long Goodnight stands out. I listen to this song for like half n hour one morning repeatedly just thinkin of this girl. Here's where things get freaky. That day I get messeges from her apologizing for everything... I'm not jumpin to the conclusion that maybe things will be the same. But She is talking to me. This song is the theme to the entire time I was without her. | The way this song has connected with me goes something like this. There are two people in love. They've come to the end of their relationship and they had their last moment where maybe everything they wanted to say didn't get said. To be specific the character speakin in the lyrics. Now they've moved on with their lives and are faraway from one another. The guy is sure if he would have said what he had to instead of just letting his lover go everything would be different. He's haunted by these thoughts and wants to just write it down and see if the love he lost would read it and would change their mind. By the next verse you can safely assume their romance was spent by the ocean or shoreline of some sort and the person has come back to his senses and metaphorically explains how their love is gone and he really can't change it as bad he wants to. It's all over. The woahs are giant sighs or this pressure being alliviated of the shoulders of a jaded lover. | |

I've listened to this album for about 4 years and as time passes I find new ways to relate to each song. A lot has been happening in my life and everything seems to be changeing around me. This is where I extract my opinion to these lyrics. This a situation where a a person has let somebody into their life and got very close to them. Now out of the blue the other person has comletely turned heel. Whatever purpose the person had served them has obviously ran out and with the same measure of tact they used to trick them into thinking they can be trusted they've erased the individual from their life. I draw this conclusion from the lyrics " You cocked your head to shoot me down" As when a person shoots a firearm from a distance they tend to cock their head to take aim through the sights and get a more accurate shot. The lyrics implicate the person has opened their eyes and can almost see everything for what it is now. Regardless they hope the best for this person despite obvious feelings of contempt. They just want the other person to be happy. They can't help but leak the fact their just a little bit spiteful though because they know this person is lieing to themselves just to push them further away. By the end of the song he's been bruised severly and just wants to stop caring about it. It's as if no matter how much you know a person they can change their entire personalty in the blink of an eye and the person being betrayed feels like the only genuine human being left on the entire planet and it's brought them to their knees. -The Young Legend |
