White Lies – Farewell to the Fairground Lyrics 16 years ago
I think the lyrics are very subjective, I often find that with White Lies.

However my initial understanding of these lyrics was about a failing relationship that they don't want to give up on. The fairground being a metaphore for the happy period in their relationship where everything was fun and happy but they've hit that rough patch, the magic has died and the "rides" aren't working anymore. They know the only way to get out of this rough patch is to leave it and say fairewell but the memories of what happened to make them hit a rough patch will haunt them forever just incase the relationship does fail or could haunt them to remind them not to end up in that position again; "the act forever haunts these skies"

In relation to the lyrics "We'll head south just hold my hand now" could be because on a compass you are always told to follow North, with South being opposite. To keep going forward you have to go north but instead they're going backwards, heading South to go back to the beginning of their relationship to start again, holding hands to show how they don't want to give up on each other.

"I feel like I'm casting off my clothes and I'm running towards towards the sunset when I'm always with you" To be naked is ultimate, intimate exposure, he feels like he is exposing everything he is to her in order rto have an honest feeling and prove his love, the sunset could be symbolic of the happiest place they could possibly be together, where she is always with him forever.

I know this won't be the true meaning, I've probably read into it too deep but that was my understanding anyhow.

James Morrison – Broken strings Lyrics 17 years ago
this song is definatly the saddest song I've heard in a long time. The lyrics are so real and raw and I can't listen to the song without wanting to cry. This is what happened with me and my ex, we'd been together for 4 years and then we realised enough was enough. I don't think the song is about cheating but I can understand why people may see it like that because of the line;
"But you broke me, now I can't feel anything."
I think this song is more about a long relationship where nothing in particular has gone wrong, they've just slowly drifted apart and are falling out of love. They don't want to admit it because they're remembering the love they once had but the longer they lie to themselves the worse it's going to get, hence the lyric
"The truth hurts, lies worse"
It's their way of telling each other that although it hurts to admit that they're falling out of love, in the long run it'd be better than a lie. This just seriousley reflects mine and my ex's relationship and it is a sad thing. People do fall out of love and grow apart and sometimes it's too late to fix it like in this song. I really do give a thumbs up to James Morrison as this really is the most moving song I have heard in a long while.
