My interpretation is that the song is about being messed up on some kind of stimulant, running out and having to wait until a friend goes to get more. "It's the cruelest joke to play I'm so high, I run in place Only a line, we separate, so..." *- The cruelest joke to play is to make a drug-buy run on someone who is already loaded and waiting for the next bump. When they are partying with their friends and down the last little bit of shit, separating it so everyone can have some is the polite thing to do... especially if someone else is going to get it. Chorus: "I keep on playin our favorite song I turn it up while you're gone It's all I got when you're in my head And you're in my head so I need it" *- If anyone has ever been high on powder, you know there is always one dick who keeps wanting to hear the same song... for some it's "Freebird" for others it is "Enya's greatest hits", either way, when someone is high as a giraffe's ass and waiting on their next fix, they do whatever they can to keep their mind on something else during the wait. "You're the only thing I've got, That I can't seem to get enough We collide for one embrace, so..." *- Pretty self-explanatory when you think about the song in the context of an jonesing addict. Chorus "Hurry up & wait forever Hurry up & wait for forever " *- that is exactly what waiting for a next fix can be like. |

"Setting sun deals hands of gold" *- sounds like someone got a goooood deal on some cocaine. "There's velvet eyes in Mexico" *- ever seen someone's eyes after a week long coke bender? "Just a fall away And all she said was true" *- must have been told it was good shi..stuff. "Speak in tongues, speak in lies" *- ever talked to someone after they have been on a week long coke bender? They talk gibberish and will tell you the most unreal stories. "Drooling livers, born to die" *- The liver processes toxins and chemicals out of the body... excessive usage will "pickle" your liver to death. Sounds like he is implying his liver is jonesing too. "It's a wonder that those guns don't point at you" *- Sounds like it is referring to either a cartel or police organization... or possibly 'guns' refers to I.V. syringes. [chorus:] "Keep sayin, go on, keep sayin, go on, keep sayin, you will live forever" *- Sounds like he is trying to convince himself that the junk won't kill him eventually. "Point and shoot, I know just what you mean" *- Possibly I.V. use? "In a world that's full of shit and gasoline, baby" *- Shit could refer to the slang term for drugs in general... gasoline is the solvent used when extracting chemicals from coca leaf. "One dog's dead one's on the phone" *- I always thought 'dog' was slang for someone's friend. Sounds like one of his friends had a not so good time and the other is wondering where the shit is... "Just leave a lung or leave it alone" *- There is a high cost when strung out on something like coke... mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically... this likely means that the cost will be too high. "It's that same on song again I hate it cause it's true" *- Regardless of how much you dislike being dependent upon something, when the monkey is on your back it is hard to keep that little bastard fed. [repeat chorus] Just my take on things, but again, who really knows what the hell the artists are talking about when they write songs. take care, piggy pig. |
