Mumford & Sons – Roll Away Your Stone Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm not sure if anyone's picked this up, but the actual lyrics (as published in the booklet) are:

"Stars hide your fires
These here are my desires
And I WILL give them up to you this time around."

This song is absolutely about faith, and about the struggle between independence and selfish ambition and handing over control to God.
So many lines in this song speak beatifully about human vulnerability:
"I'm afraid of what I will discover inside"
"the fragile substance of my soul"

The prospect of exposing our true selves, even to God, is a terrifying one, for we are acutely aware that we fall short of perfection. And yet, grace is more than enough to make up for what we lack:
"It seems all my bridges have been burnt
But you say that's exactly how this grace thing works."
In our weakness, His strength is made perfect. (2 Corinthians 12:9)

It seems a paradox to "give up" one's desires, while making a stand for one's soul. But here, I believe that it is speaking about entrusting these desires to God, whose plan is ultimately the best one, and refusing to submit to the enemy, who aims to ensnare our souls and keep us in "darkness" by offering us that which we think we want, but will lead to our destruction in the long-term.

Kate Micucci – Out the Door Lyrics 17 years ago
I love this. Kate, obviously, is in touch with her inner child (alright, verging on immature. But can you really hold that against her?) and has no desire to be held down by this fellow's serious and egotistical nature. (She never liked him as much as he liked himself.)
Many lines (You put a helmet on my head/ You want to make me dinner/ You will like the way she dresses) show her partner picking at her faults, trying to change the person that she is.
He is also quite sure of himself, believing what he wants to believe and not seeing reality: "You to read your fortune, I'd rather you just read the news." (The line about him needing his glasses also refers to this blindness towards her wishes, and their underlying incompatibility)

In the end, she is refusing to let him suffocate her, and telling him quite clearly to walk away rather than dragging her along ("I'm tired of these miles"; and the resounding "Walk right out of the door")
Anyway, this song makes me smile. It also makes me want to don a yellow raincoat and jump in puddles.
I think that Kate should be streamed from every station:)
