Damien Rice – Bottom Shelf Lyrics 17 years ago
this song is phenomenal. I love how Damien always focuses on an object and makes it the theme of the song/analogy (cannonball, volcano, etc.) He is the most amazing lyricist ever. Anyway, I agree this song is about having to rise from being broken, ignored hurt-- get yourself out of the bottom shelf. It reminds me of a quote i've heard once-"don't make someone a priority when they only consider you an option". So true, sounds like she's shoved him in the bottom shelf like he's an option for her but not fully in love as much as he is.

'Cause I'm always hanging on
And I'm always closing doors
And I'm always saying no
No, when I really really want it all
When I really really want you

-- I love that part. I always feel like that, so afraid to give my heart to him even though he's all I really want. But I remain guarded, because I know he might break it so I always say no and close the doors to the one thing I want because of how risky it is and how much he is capable of breaking my heart.
