You cant forget about your past. Your past, whatever that might be, is what has gotten you here. That past can be negative or positive. If it's negative, if you wouldnt have gone through your it and hadnt overcome it, you wouldnt be where you are today. If it's positive, you dont know how you made it through life without it but your so glad its here now. Either way, its about progressively moving forward. Dont look back in regret, but always remember your past because without it, you wouldnt know where you are going. |

One thing that is so unique about Red is their way of creating their lyrics to be spiritual to religious people but at the same time can apply to other things in life besides religion to those who dont belive. I dont think that there is a way of "wrongly interpreting" their lyrics, but i had right the opposite interpretation than shepardeyeshine. I can see how he came to that conclusion and i respect people who can think for themselves and form their own opinion, which seems to be a rapidly declining attribute in this world. With that said, i dont think he is trying to rebel against God. I think that in this song the fight inside is definitely a spiritual battle, but is one that he is trying to come out on the Godly side. Enemy, familiar friend, My beginning and my end, ---i think this applies to the people around him. they have influence on him to do things that he knows are wrong but those things are pleasurable to his human side. Knowing truth, whispering lies, And it hurts again. ---he know that God is the only path to righteousness but his actions speak against what he believes in. All the pain, I want it to end, But I want it again. ---he wants the pain of sin to go away but the worldly human side of him wants to sin again. "And it finds me, The fight inside is coarsing through my veins. And it's raging, The fight inside is hurting me again. ---no matter how hard he tries, the battle between good and evil always comes back, and the more temptation he faces the worse it hurts him because he wants his relationship with God, but he doesnt want to give up his sin. Ya know, when i first listened to this song, i thought it was about him being in a severe state of depression from a previous relationship and then an amazing girl walked into his life that he never expected but yet never wants her to go away. But as i kept listening, it just hit me that maybe it isnt a girl hes talking about, but God. He always ran away because he wanted to live his own life and be consumed by his own priorities. So God allowed him to be the creature of choice that he promised us all and when he finally hit rock bottom from living the life he chose, God stepped in and showed him the light, gave him back life, and put him on top of the world. Either way, great song. great album. |
