Well me I love plastics and digital foils to wrap up the sound and protect the girls from the spiritual poison we expel at night like phony clothes but I really like might Maybe I'm being graphic, although one interpretation here is the obvious use of protection during sex. While plastic is harmful and false, one of it's benefits is "protecting" the interests of those depraved beings in society, overcome by vices. "I relly like might" might very well be a slight reference to rape.... Course, I'm just digging. Some kind of metal made up from glue some kind of plastic I can wrap around you The needy eat man mades they wear phony clothes they sit with barbiturates until they grow old In this artificial, desolate environment, the effects trickle down into the defenseless. At the lower rungs, the needy are trapped by a lack of healthier options for survival. They are left with no salvation and consolation outside of the lowest form of manmade horrors. Barbiturates are used in sedatives. And, trapped in the spirtually poisoned world, they grow dependent on such sedatives. This need remains with them throughout their lives. Some kind of nature, some kind of nature, some kind of soul come forth within us oh lord forgive me some kind of mixture some kind of goal it's gonna come and find us all we are is stars After the plastic beaches and glitter freezes, all that's left of humanity is some strange sort of nature....made so by the superficiality of existence. |

Are we discussing the song, or whatever wild generalizations we posses concerning skin color and the rapping skill that correlates? Perhaps I confused myself believing songmeanings.net was an effort to collaborate about an artist's perspective, insight, or message. I was not aware we were to bicker like twelve year olds over which style of music is superior. |

"One love, one life, one too many victims. Republicrat, Democran, one party system." a play on what we stand for. no matter what labels we throw on ourselves, what's really happening is one large group of people arguing over trivials while people die overseas "Media goes in a frenzy, They're stripped of their credentials. Presidential candidates can't debate over this instrumental. Let 'em freestyle, winner takes all, When the musics dead I'll have Ted Nugents head hangin' on my wall." The media isn't reliable and neither is politics- they play by ear, always gauging the audience's reaction. it's all manipulated, and they are althogether linked anyway when you think about it. don't know much about ted except he incorporated a lot of his right politics into his music. haha, i'm clueless there "Kill one of ours, we'll kill one of yours. With some friendly fire, thats a funny term, like civil war. Six in the morning, police at my crib. Now my nights consists of two toothpicks and eyelids." play on the code of hammurabi eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth "kill one of ours, we'll kill one of yours" which is the politcal mentality here. everyone's bickering about issues and personal stabilization instead of acting for the common good |

My shot at the first chunk :) so, i'm getting the vibe that he's simultaneously bagging on religion and the global environment at the same time. Jesus is often referred to as a fountain (of eternal life). However, (people with) religion (is/are) no longer safe in these times. That water isn't the currency anymore, although it is what our country (the land) was built upon. It was abused (turned to blood if you will) and is now no longer legit; the people now have no where to turn to for assurance or faith. Thus, we crumble. "The water ain't safe, the land's made of water I hug a half empty glass my dignity's trying to corner I'm trying to see the future in a tea cup and a saucer But I rather be drinking coffee with my cigarette foster And a run away buckle the cloud-nine fantasy filter to force the brutal truth Of daily market place wars through the roof I mean I stood beneath the icicles that bleed under the yawning And magically mastered the great absorbing of spirit falling" That's all him trying to search for hope (halfheartedly, we can guess. the cup is half empty after all) and again, he expresses no desire for water, craving coffee (a very American symbol, representing a crowdedm busy, and restless lifestyle) and cigarettes (anything we've become dependent on in place of the dirty water) in its place He tries to escape grim reality (escape to cloud nine) with these, but the truth is that it's all greed and competition (market wars) "But I'm sick, I've plowed these fields a thousand times over Sold botanicle research studies to farmers with whole quarters And when science proposes to art besides that peace-full sea I'll be that cat with a ring on a pillow shouting finally" Here, he is begging for a common ground/peace between science and nature, that are often colliding in modern day battles. however, both fields require water which, again, is not safe. So, mankind's inventions and Mother Nature conflict, as thye continually battle and disprove one another "Take a number, the apple seeds rained upon each slumber A hundred thousand freaks on parade for the village hunter My every (?) when acted upon has gone loopy But I play a game called lets prepare barnacle city for the end or new sink" It's basically a very "don't get your hopes up, the word sucks, the water isn't safe" verse. I'll have to be vague...some finer points elude me. "I split the radius at go getter bellies, reconnaissance Seeping fossil genie bottle optimist freeze Run from the fountain but the fountain is a desert optical tease Tummy full of sand running man impossible stop There's a wing in my gut and i'm all dust Surfing the earth and I dine-rise certainly flushed Now one in the hands work to and top the toilet seater But what lies inside my heart is off the mother fucking meter" This one's sort of self-explanatory. He's hoping for a reconnaisance (rebirth if you will) in the earth that is denied by our habits (seeping fossil fuels..genie bottle = aerosol cans? or the belief it can be all fixed with a simple snap, freezng us on a fake optimism) The water isn't safe; the fountain is a mirage (your hopes for security and safety simply do not exist) meanwhile, as we try to get by on whatever's left(with a tummy full of a sand), we find we can't stop. Faith/religion OR aspirations/chances for success were consumed in the curruption of the water. He's (and everyone's) just dining high and surfing the Earth, although in his heart, the conviction that something's f-d up plagues him (But what lies inside my heart is off the mother fucking meter) there goes my first try :) |

hey toastz, i think you're exactly right :) he didn't invent logical, intelligent hip hop he's just one of those angels in the basement, utterly concelaed from view (in the underground), but always there. triple sixers could br large r&b/hip hop artists for example, who overshadow the brilliance of other rappers with synthesizers, catchy beats, and other diversions |

Tacobandit, thank you for the updated lyrics, New translation: "I promise tempest tossed breed with a bleeding conscience" That, at it's best, is America. Our breed/generation is tempest-tossed; overwhelmed in a frenzy of instant information and gratification, tossed by the media, and prodded with shifting views and perspectives. In the end, with no solid morals, we just cater into what feels right, even though inwardly we've a bleeding conscience, or an intense feeling that there's something wrong. Which falls under the American Dream Which is really somewhat a nightmare in our society anyway. Wealth's all liability "Giving crumbs for the better souls with seven deadly sins" We applaud award the rich, famous, and celebrated, considering them better or more valued though they have no honor, moral value, or general achievement behind them "To hear the plane to crystal conscious To results a low life counting on one hand what he's accomplished" More of the above. Can't fathom the first line "Ok, lift me to activism chain activate street sweep Plug in deteriorating zenith pen dragging I hack swords wars for the morbid spreading of mad men" The last part is a reference to the "pen being mightier than the sword", although apparently, the pen has been taking up by him in madness. he hacks the sword wars so others will become aware and suffer (the madness...by the truth he's realized) with him) his activism is raising awareness (to the conditions of living these days, which is often grimy and cluttered, thus, activate street sweep) which is burdensome and maddening. And throughout the whole song, he's saying to stop aspiring for your American dream, because it simply can't happen in the condtion we're currently in...unless you've a lottery ticket or ancestry. Every line hints at desire for something or the reaching a destination impaired by reality. It's all fun now, but you won't be laughing when your covered wagons crasg. Oh who knows. Feedback? |

Hello. I am virtually new on here (and new to Aesop) so I don't pretend to be an expert or anything, but a couple of things stood out" "I promise temperance storm breed with a leaning conscious" This refers to the reigning political correctness of America, perhaps? Now that temperance- that is, at least, an eveness and forcibly open mind regarding most issues- is practically required, we stir up no true raw passion, and are left with just a leaning conscious or inclination in a storm of temperance. "Watch red bricks turn yellow Sort of similar to most backbones at camp Icarus" The bricks turning yellow is an allusion to the Wizard of Oz, where Dorothy must merely follow a set road in order to reach her proposed destination. In that same way, Icarus is an allusion to the Greek myth, wherein the trapped tenants of a deserted island finally devise a way to escape by making wings out of feathers and wax, only to have the wings be destroyed midflight by foolishness? haha, I'm not sure. Naturally, there are probably more than one interepretations. One small request though: It's already been established that Aesop Rock is an unparalled, rhythmic and poetic genius. Maybe we can start focusing on the lyrics themselves (no matter how cryptic) instead of showering him with praises on every comment and page? I don't know. I'm just really interested on what you all have to say lyric-wise. |
