What do you think they mean by "they never should have taken the very best."
Is he just referring the south in general? Or do you think this is after the war and he literally sees Robert E Lee passing by and feels regret that Lee (the best general) eventually lost? |

@[z4ckm0rris:4648] I think the chorus just means that there was a whole helluva lot of feeling that something momentous had occurred with the fall of the South. Bells were ringing, people were singing, angles flew around, lighting filled the skies, etc. |

I think she's contrasting her own ephemeral nature with the tall trees. She has nobody, she has no children or family, she will be gone and forgotten soon. Not like the trees which have been there a long time and will be still after the singer is gone. Great song. Eva Cassidy was really something special. |

This is my favorite MBV song. They're the only ones who could pull off something like this.
As far as lyrics go, most of their songs seem to be directed at some object of affection/obsession, intertwined with the elements that ooohmissy mentioned. I think the singer in this song is borderline insane for the one they are after. It's just tearing them apart |

I think that by saying you don't need so much sleep, he means you shouldn't try to live in your dreams. In this respect the song is kind of depressing; he says every time you close your eyes (avoid reality, daydream, see things as they aren't) you're lying to yourself. At the end of the song when he says "now here's the sun it's alright, now here's the moon it's alright" he means you should face reality and see your life as it really is. That's how I see it. |
