Though likely to be the same family, the "mother" in the beginning isn't even for certain the dancer's mother, he never directly connects them. I think "alost" is right on and the song is about Shannon Wilsey, it'd definitely fit their theme. Still, I really like how this song seems to capture the way some interactions or encounters continue to haunt you long after they've happened and the things you wish you had said or could somehow say to them now. |

Well of course it's not the third about Shannon Wilsey, which is exactly why "alost" says it's the third about *deceased former adult film starts!* Please don't correct people on things they haven't said. |

I too appreciate 311005901's interpretation and also agree with watchmedisappear that it is likely intentionally vague.. But also, I feel that there's a thick layer of denial and even some defensiveness in this song. "All that's over now/ and our babies never cry... and our children never lie" Those later two lines seem so obviously impossible that it makes you doubt the truth in the rest of the song. Perhaps the reality is that things really aren't that different and in the end, just like we've always been, we're still afraid to die. We haven't really evolved that much since the times of our mothers' mother and fathers' father. |

This song is amazing, but I was a little disappointed when I found out all the real lyrics.. Originally I thought he was saying "I will never try To forget you're not alive" Rather than "I will never try To forget your northern lights" Still great lyrics, but pretty different meaning now. |

Love this line... "I always fall in love with an open door Or the horizon on an endless sea As I look around the ones who are standing right in front of me" He always falls in love with the one who is so easy to get, easy to leave and easy to get back again. Or he falls for the impossible to obtain. The one he will never have no matter how hard he tries. And he overlooks those that are right there next to him, and never even considers pursuing them, despite the fact that they are probably the best option. Such a clever lyricist! |

I think this song is about a bad relationship, or rather, a relationship that's turned bad. And about wanting to cheat/thinking about cheating, though perhaps not actually even following through with it. When I saw him in concert the other night, before he played this song, he said "This next song is about when things go on for way too long. Long after they've stopped being fun." |

| Bright Eyes – I Will Be Grateful for This Day Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This song is amazing! The way he describes these old friends and lovers in his life, you know he was just missing them desperately here, but you can tell that he's trying to move on.. Telling himself "I will be grateful for this day. I will be grateful for each day to come." However, I have one huge issue with these lyrics... "It will be gold and green and TRUE" it is not "shrewd". |

I have to agree with twiztidtiff, the best word for describing this song would be "beautiful"! This song was actually playing in the background when I lost my virginity, total coincidence, but it was a song that my boyfriend had always told me reminded him of us. He met me when I was really struggling and thought very little of myself, for some reason he always felt I was worth so much more. He also had a real understanding of where I was coming from and what I was feeling. This song is really relatable but also very personal, I think that's a big part of what makes it so amazing. |
