I saw The Killers live just less than one month ago, and after performing this song,Brandon made a comment, something like "...this song is about when you wake up in the morning and everything's changed...you try and try and hope you will feel the same way again...but nothing seems to help..." So yes, sounds to me not exactly like a divorce, but maybe like a break up. This is one of my favourite songs by The Killers,and I think Sam's Town album was unfairly underrated. |

| Looks like I'm the only one to think Juliet already has a boyfriend when Romeo comes underneath the window to sing "you and me babe, how about it?".I was nearly sure that she says to Romeo "my boyfriend's back, you shouldn't come around here..." That's how the rest of the song and Romeo's broken heart made sense to me...but ok, maybe I was wrong... | |

I re-discovered this song just last night, and liked it so much that I have been listening to it for the past 24 hours,and now I can finally say it is giving me the creeps! If I try and look for some depth in it, I could compare it to the film Jacob's Ladder by Adrian Lyne, about a soldier from Vietnam who becomes mentally unwell, suffering from hallucinations and delusions,as a result of being exposed to a chemical experiment on US soldiers in Vietnam.In trying to prove this he gets in trouble with the Government(or at least he believes so).Just as in this song's lyrics, there are flashbacks of his past life, ex wife,his children...Now, if Brandon Flowers was not as young as he is, I would think he was 100% inspired by this beautiful psychological thriller from 1990. There is also another possibility I can think of, and that are the words of Sir Bob Geldof about the meaning of The Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody lyrics:"The meaning is that there is no meaning. We all sing nonsense!" I still think this is a great song, though. |
