The Swellers – Skoots Lyrics | 14 years ago |
this song is awesome. about the death of a friend, and the falsity of people.. there were always the "same six at their shows, but now that it's a funeral the room is overflowed".. the lyricist says, "so good of you to show support when the admission's free". the lyricist doesn't have clothes fit for a funeral because the death was obviously a shocking one.. he never thought he would need them. ("I don't have clothes for days like these, I never thought they'd come to me, but I'm still here") it's really sad because he talks about how the people speaking at his friend's funeral didn't really know him, and they are glorifying him, saying words he knows his friend would never say/approve of. he wouldn't want all of this. he'd "want to be a tree, strong in the ground" and he would've said "Keep looking where your eyes are looking now". instead of putting false words into his friend's lifeless mouth, he says reads words his friend actually wrote when he was alive. love this |

Set Your Goals – Our Ethos: A Legacy to Pass On Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Because when there's no one there to hear you the music will listen, and when there's no one there to tell the words will write themselves. So you say that this is trapping me, and yeah, maybe I agree. But there are ways in which I'm free that you will never be. love. |
Set Your Goals – Look Closer Lyrics | 14 years ago |
totally agree with the comment above. some 1984 references.... I think this song is sort of telling the world to wake up.. everyone is born into a "controlled mindset", taught by society that they have to follow a certain religion, settle down at a young age, live a certain way, eat a certain way, think a certain way. "it's secure and safe like you need it all to be." --- people only follow this because it is what they are taught and used to, it is secure and safe to think and live this way. but they will never realize how messed up it all really is until they Look closer. we are brainwashed and braindead, asleep in our own "safety" and ignorance, while "they" control us.. |
Set Your Goals – Like You to Me Lyrics | 14 years ago |
this song is definitely about falling in love.. getting close to someone after going through unsuccessful relationships. after being hurt when "investing in an excitable sense". but it's hopeful, because he realizes that he can learn from past mistakes, to help make something work. he tries to teach a lesson to the people listening, sort of telling them not to be afraid to communicate and work out problems, desires, futures, etc to make it work. I can relate to this a lot. getting "scared just for a beat" about love and being vulnerable.. |
Manchester Orchestra – My Friend Marcus Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love what andy says in AP about the concept of the album Mean everything to no-thing.. because if you mean everything to someone, you're going to let them down. I don't really know what the idea would mean in context? maybe he doesn't want to let God or a spiritual figure mean everything to him because he will only be let down. and Hull maybe has trouble finding meaning in his life/purpose because of this? "My friend Marcus, he works on a train set And I still can't move on my broke track He's helping me find my meaning Eventually and hopefully we'll see" and maybe at the end he is talking about how many don't have a home spiritually or are lost just as he is.. I don't know I'm just throwing ideas out there haha. |

Third Eye Blind – Semi-Charmed Life Lyrics | 15 years ago |
What I find amazing about this song is that, even though it is obviously about drugs and sex, the lyrics still have the ability to evoke crazy emotion Like, I don't do drugs. I never have done meth or anything like it. but the overall bittersweet feeling of the song sums me up so much I can't describe the constant satisfaction/unsatisfaction/distraction from reality and dealing with reality the torn mood of living and being happy in the moment (even if to the lyricist it means by doing drugs), and missing things that have passed and will never come again Especially these lyrics: I believe in the sand beneath my toes The beach gives a feeling An earthy feeling I believe in the faith that grows And the four right chords can make me cry When I'm with you I feel like I could die And that would be all right All right they make me crazy because they are so true. it really is the saddest song.. it's like no matter how high you get or how happy you feel in a moment with simple pleasures, like music, the beach, a lover, "nothing is alright, alright" that's at least what it means to me. |
