Project 86 – Spy Hunter Lyrics 13 years ago
I have always thought of this song as being about Nero. I mean, it sounds like Christians responding to his persecution of them - "we're lighting our souls, healing our bones upon your empire burning" - Nero burned Rome and then blamed the Christians for it, but they ultimately won out because, even though they were martyred, they received eternal life.
maybe that's just me. but i can't help but think of Nero every time i listen to this song.

Thrice – Wood and Wire Lyrics 13 years ago
brooks,
here's your answer:

For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,
(2 Corinthians 4:17 ESV)

almost the same exact words.

very simply,
this song is about lust,
just like "christa paffgen."
since so many romantic relationships today are built on lust, i'm pretty sure stephen christian is addressing that idea.

Mims – This Is Why I'm Hot Lyrics 14 years ago
i agree with infinite turtles.

this song is definitely Mims' attempt to communicate mathematical principles to the uneducated ghetto community.

Forget Bono - Mims' work for the betterment of society is unparalleled.

mewithoutYou – Allah, Allah, Allah Lyrics 14 years ago
don't worry people, i don't think that aaron has become a muslim. or a universalist for that matter.

first off, yes, the use of the name "Allah" may be controversial, but after all, it IS simply the arabic word for God. i imagine that arabic christians over in the middle east say "Allah" when they refer to God the Father. regardless, i know from various things that aaron has said [i've watched multiple videos and even spoken with him myself] that he has a rather unique view on word usage. to him, it doesn't seem to matter if you say "God" or "Allah" or "Yahweh" - because God is, ultimately, bigger than the words we use for him. while i know this could yield bad results, i do agree with the general premise that God definitely is beyond whatever words we use to refer to Him with our various languages.

as far as the "every blade of grass", "everyone we meet" etc. goes - at first i thought this was a little pantheistic too. God, in every blade of grass? well aaron, that's - - - uhh - - - interesting... but then i thought about it, and what i really think aaron is saying [and i agree with him on this, as i'm sure you will] is that God can be SEEN through everyone and everything in the sense that EVERYONE and EVERYTHING is HIS handiwork. in other words, the creation is a reflection of the Creator's glory.

honestly, i think that's the best way to interpret these lyrics.

grace and peace.

mewithoutYou – In a Sweater Poorly Knit Lyrics 15 years ago
i think the last lines in the song are simply astounding. "I do not exist- only You exist" - in other words Christ is the only significance. I am, admittedly, having a hard time fitting that in with the rest of the song. I saw a video where Aaron was explaining the meaning of this song before he performed it, and he said that it was a song that was, in a sense, a plea that we will stop hurting other people- the link is posted somewhere above- and i have a hard time seeing that. your thoughts on that?
also, whenever Aaron references God or Christ in the liner notes, he always capitalizes You- in their band name, for example. but in this song, he doesn't actually do that. he says - You've made a holy fool of me and I've thanked you ever since. So is he not talking to God in the last bit? i thought he was. i dunno. this song is incredible but- yeah. there's just some confusion. your thoughts, please.

mewithoutYou – The Dryness and the Rain Lyrics 15 years ago
good job people. we are supposed to be on here discussing the meaning of the dryness and the rain, and instead we are arguing about how's going to hell and who isn't.

getting back to the discussion....

what DO you think this is about? this and in a market dimly lit are the two most confusing songs on Brother, Sister. i'm still trying to figure both of them out. your thoughts, please - and as a special request, please don't try to preach the Gospel to me. i am already a Christian and would rather not receive any internet evangelism.
