When DP played this song in concert about 15 years ago, Ian Gillan did a "jerkoff" motion with his hand while singing the line "the log was in my pocket". Classic.
Also, I always though the lyrics were a "common cunnilinguist" rather than a "common cunning linguist".

On youtube, you can find a clip of Mark Farner appearing on VH1 "Behind the Music" (the clips are labeled "Grand Funk History, 1 - 5") and he says "I'm Your Captain" was a protest song about the Vietnam War. With that said, I'd probably agree with the earlier poster who said it's specifically about the draft. |
