Sarah McLachlan – Adia Lyrics 10 years ago
A lot of people hear the name "Adia", but it's really just an over-pronunciation of the name "Ada," as in Ada Wong from the game Resident Evil 2.

Sarah McLachlan wrote this song after an unsuccessful attempt at beating the final boss in RE 2, leaving Ada to fall to her death. Hence "Ada, I do believe I've failed you / Ada, I know I've let you down."

Eddie Vedder – Hard Sun (Indio cover) Lyrics 12 years ago
Some quick background on this song:

Eddie actually wrote it for and about a horse you may know by the name of Hard Spun - who was just a young colt at the time.

Not too many people know this, but Eddie had an eye for racehorses. And while visiting Michael Moran's Brushwood Ranch, he caught sight of the young stallion going through daily exercises in the corral.

Eddie turned to Moran and whispered, "That's a champion in the making - no doubt about it."

Moran wasn't sold, but he decided to let Eddie spend time with Hard Spun, hoping his positive attitude might rub off on the him. Over the next three months, Eddie and Hard Spun became best of friends, and that's when Eddie wrote the song.

Things took a sharp turn for the worse, though, when Hard Spun started letting his success go to his head. Before long, he was spending more time with the mares and less time with Eddie. He soon forgot about everything Eddie had done for him.

Then, after a long, emotional argument, Eddie said to Hard Spun, "eff you, stupid horse, I'm going to take a p..." Then he mumbled under his breath, "...out of the song I wrote for you."

And just like that, the song took on a whole new name and whole new meaning. And many of us who are in the know believe that is why Hard Spun didn't win the Triple Crown later in his career.

Eddie never befriended another horse again and hasn't since.

This song is not about driving at all. It's a metaphor about a lifestyle. Came upon it differently, but I live this lifestyle.

^I agree with this interpretation wholeheartedly, well done indeed. Anyone who thinks this song has anything at all to do with operating a motor vehicle in any capacity is completely missing the point.

I think it is also important to note that the use of "Eighty" is more than likely a reference to "Ada Wong" from the popular Resident Evil video game series. We know that both the song and the video game came out at relatively the same time, and if you say "Eighty" slow it kind of sounds like you might say "Ada Wong" instead. Lead singer Max Collins knew this, and used it as the basis of this song and quite possibly the basis for the entire album.
