I love this song. I listen to it over and over trying to figure out what it means. To me its about an atheistic (or anti organized religion) women involved with a religious man. Her feelings seem to be unrequited which has led to the bitterness. The "worms" and "chickens" are examples of a faulty God. It has such a beautiful despondent sadness. |

I think this song is about the fleeting nature of fame.
"Sweep the streets I used to own" is a great line. |

I always thought this song had two narrators, one was the optimistic youth voice, and the more cynical older wiser voice was sort of responding.
I love the lines "Can you imagine if this race is won? Turn our golden faces to the sun" I always thought that was a really sweet way of acknowledging getting old with somebody. |

| Black Kids – Hurricane Jane Lyrics

I actually thought that Jane, the bitchy unattainable girl, was a metaphor for an alcoholic drink. First of all, a "hurricane" is a drink. If you read the lyrics in that context it actually makes a lot of sense. Most obviously the "I want you here inside me" and "took something and it feels like karate." I thought the alcohol or "Jane" was at the club making the girls all bitchy and dancing out of control. Also "its a given I'll be kneeling" - is maybe a reference to drinking too much and getting sick. |
