I believe it's about a person who feels safe in the world they know. They stay isolated and know that it's killing them. But they're use to the pain of isolation. Someone comes to take him out of his "hole" and he doesn't feel it's right or isn't use to it, so therefore he doesn't like it. He comes out and sees nothing but death and violence, when he saw nothing but calm and self in his "box". He then wishes to take the one who tried to take him out, into his own world. "a place you'll never knew could be" would simply be a world without violence, without death. A world he knew quite well.
