| Thankyou, the only reason people are denying it is because they got in to the first album coz of all the going out drinking lyrics they used to sing about, and now they have changed and the old fans aren't willing to accept that they can't relate to some of the songs now because they are about drugs. I however have remained a large fan throughout all 3 albums and can relate to each one in a different way. | |

Actually I think it's about discovering stuff he wish he hadn't discovered on psychedelic drugs. That's why he wants his mind erased and it also explains the lines about understanding is cruel and ignorance being bliss. This is also why he wants the fun police to leave him alone coz he's probs doing acid and he knows he's probably screwing his head up but he doesnt care hence "Give me the reason why the minds a terrible thing to waste?". |

I've already wrote this in a reply but seeing as most people don't read replies I shall write it here too. For the people who think that this song or a lot of the album isn't about LSD. Humbug is psychedelic, search humbug in to wikipedia look at the genre part click on psychedelic rock and look at the meaning if you're still not convinced read some reviews on the album. Hopefully this should clear things up for the anti-drugs arctic monkeys fans who can't bare to think that there favourite band would take drugs, yes you won't be able to relate to this album as well as the others, but if that's a problem just have a go at taking LSD yourself there isn't any conclusive evidence that it harms you physically or mentally permanently so there isn;t really a catch. |

First off it still sounds like calms to me. Second of all Arctic Monkeys have admitted to doing weed when the first album was released, The second album came along and some songs such as this house is a circus became slightly drug sounding and now the third album is psychedelic, search humbug in to wikipedia look at the genre part click on psychedelic rock and look at the meaning if you're still not convinced read some reviews on the album. If there was proof that people don't change at all over the course of a few years at a young age with lots of money, then maybe I would believe your statement that Arctic Monkeys don't do drugs I'm also guessing you didn't see the effects on the web transmission. And if this song is about sex explain how more than a vague description of a misread 2 lines made you come to this conclusion. |

LSD has such strong emotional effects on users to make artists write whole songs about them, hence the whole late 60's psychedelic rock movement even the best bands such as the beatles and the rolling stones wrote whole songs about LSD. Also if you go on wikipedia you will find they listened to Hendrix and Cream while making the album huge psychedelic gods. Plus the whole album is laced with trippiness and subtle acid hints, not to mention the crying lightning video. I do admit some of my points may have been a bit outlandish but ego mechanic, close your eyes and visualise, and commit yourself to the colourful really seem very LSD to me, I'm sure the other points are just to personal to work out. |

Definitely about LSD a drug that is coming more popular in the indie scene. I believe the potion he's talking about is LSD and here's why. I was biting the timezone and we embellished the banks of our bloodstreams and threw caution to the colourful. (Biting the timezone meaning time is going to get distorted a huge LSD effect, Embellishing the banks of his bloodstream with LSD, throwing caution to the colourful meaning he is taking the drug now LSD is known to make colours appear brighter) I am a fell asleep in the car until the bumps woke me up in your grip and the tide took me to your mouth (because of the slow onset of the drug he "fell asleep in the car" and then it starts to kick in and he's starting to feel it.) And swept me back down to your calms its then that put me inside the reminder that yours is the only ocean (He realises now under it's effect that it's the only drug he wants.) I've got this ego mechanic. She’s always tryin' to give me vitamins. (I think this part is about his dealer, Ego loss is the main effect of LSD so I presume here that the ego mechanic is his dealer and is always trying to sell him more). If I could be someone else for a week, I’d spend it chasing after you. (That's how much he likes LSD even if he was someone else he'd still want to trip.) Potion approaching, shield your eyes, Potion approaching, visualize, (On acid many users cover there eyes with there hands and visualise entire movies in there head one of the main reasons users take the drug.) Holding a token, swollen in size, Potion approaching, shield your eyes. (Token = tab, Swollen in size could be his pupils.) But if we’re gonna escape though, we’d really ought to think it through. (Escaping from reality, trips however always have to be thought through due to there length and the possibility of a bad trip.) |

Let me begin by saying this is one of the greatest songs of all time and I can't believe how under rated love were coz every song on this album is superb. I think to find the meanings of lyrics you have to look to the drug LSD as we all know Arthur Lee was a huge user of this substance using it only for good. there's one part I'd like to break down coz I think it's fantastic. Everything I've seen is rearranging (On LSD everything moves and re arranges such as walls and faces) And for anyone who thinks it's strange (I.E thinks it's a bad thing) Uh, then you should be the first to want to make this change (You should be the first to try LSD because you're so close minded and it will benefit you more than anyone else due to it's mind opening qualitys.) And for everyone who thinks that life is just a game (Self explanatory) Do you like the part you're playing (Is the role your playing in life doing good?) | Quite clearly is not about weed the song is one of the most obvious LSD trips I've ever seen. Purple haze in the sky kinda does it for me all of my LSD trips the clouds have looked like purple haze at some point, plus the piece of paper really makes it obvious but not as much as going in to a different dimension which is basically what LSD does to you.
