| Grateful Dead – Estimated Prophet Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| probably my favorite song by the dead. i love the grooving around the "you've all been asleep, you would not believe me." i also love the allusion in this part to the book of exodus ("standin' on the beach, the sea will part before me.) i'm not a christian but i believe wisdom and good insights into life can be taken from the bible. for me the story of moses (baby in the basket, parting of the red sea) is just a way of "god" reassuring the faithful: if there's no way out of an impossible situation, "god" will create one for you. | |
| Gomez – Airstream Driver Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| this song just plain rocks. i think it's about the elaborate balancing act that is daily life for many people. we all get to the point in life where what we want what others (i.e. parents, police, "god")don't want us to have. at that point we either choose to take it anyways or back off and let it go. i think this refers to the person who chooses their own life in spite of what other people think, the "airsteam driver." | |
| Gomez – Little Pieces Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| really good song. as you go through life you meet many people and take part in many things, all of which impact and shape you as a person. when you look at your possessions it brings back all those memories as if that hockey stick, that t-shirt, that art project are all pieces of you. some of them probably got left behind as you grew up. it reminds me of a couple other songs. musically it's very similar to "the end" by the doors, and lyrically it's like "fall to pieces" by velvet revolver. | |
| Isis – So Did We Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| to me this is about how everyone is born into a doomed world/life. in a way, we are all sort of like inmates in a prison: we can't leave the earth, but we can see the world (universe) beyond the prison walls. we aren't even sure if their is a prison guard (god) watching us in the panoptican tower. our only option is to survive and see it through to the end, whether good or bad. | |
| Isis – In Fiction Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| this song is about growing up, in a way. when you're a little kid your parents buy you toys and show you disney movies that all have happy endings: the main character marries the beautiful princess and saves the world, everybody lives happily ever after. as you get older you gradually realize that life rarely ever works out like this. everyone dies at the end, and no one is sure where you go, if you go anywhere at all. you learn that people all over the world have been dying since the day you were born and that people you have never even met have the ability to end your life and all life on earth at any given moment. the music video for this one is cool too. love the part at the end when the girl screams and the giant squid comes and swallows everything up, it fits the music perfectly. | |
| Tool – Vicarious Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| amazing song, check out the sweet music video. i love the gigantic eye inside the earth at the end. | |
| Tool – The Grudge Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| awesome album opener. people will inevitably wrong eachother, we're all just human. it's your choice to remember this and hold it against them, or let it go. holding grudges might seem like the only way to stay sane and keep people from taking advantage of you, but in doing so you'll eventually be left lonely with only your grudges to keep you company. letting go is really the only way to stop worrying and just enjoy your life. | |
| Tool – Prison Sex Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| people have a tendency of treating others as they've been treated. when you treat someone nicely their behavior will most likely reflect that with other people. when people are seriously wronged they have a way of getting even, maybe even taking it out years later on a completely different person who has done them no wrong. this only leads to vicious cycles of hate and pain. | |
| Tool – Stinkfist Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| great song with a killer metaphor. humans have built-in needs and desires that they pursue relentlessly. eventually, what was once new and exciting becomes boring and routine, and people must take things to the next level to get the same rush, high, satisfaction, whatever. | |
| Tool – H. Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
probably my favorite song by TOOL: the eternal struggle between good and evil within a person's conscience. this struggle is especially hard when you feel you've done everything right and still somehow ended up the loser. i love the part: And the snake is drowned and As I look in his eyes, My fear begins to fade Recalling all of those times I could have cried then I should have cried then And as the walls come down and As I look in your eyes My fear begins to fade Recalling all of the times I have died and will die It's all right I don't mind makes me think back to all of the hard times in my life when i chose to "die" instead of crying. i don't mind. |

| Tool – Forty Six & 2 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| awesome song. there are good and bad sides to everything in life, even things that are commonly viewed as "bad" by religion and society. sometimes you have to be willing to embrace both sides, life is not black and white. i love the incorporation of Jung's theory, showing parallels to Nietzsche's concept of "what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger." | |
| Tool – Disposition Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| great TOOL song and it's not even hard. seems almost like a prayer to a higher power that might not even exist. looking for a sign, any sign, to prove this existence as we go through life perpetually watching the weather change. | |
| Yes – Time and a Word Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| i love this song, it completely defines the "hippie" attitude to me. the message is great too, makes you wonder why humans can't just get along. no matter how bad your life has ever been, all that matters is that you are alive "now" and "now" is your opportunity to help other people and make the world a better place. | |
| Yes – Starship Trooper Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| lots of good comments for an awesome song. i agree with the idea of the limits of human communication and believe the message behind "please dont say a word/tell a soul" is simply that most of the joy in life comes with discovering things for yourself. i also always interpreted the "wurm" part as a rocket ship blasting off, and love the groove; this band can really jam. | |
| Slipknot – Vermilion, Pt. 2 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| to me this song (and vermillion 1) is about a guy, possibly a stalker, who has fallen in love with a girl he can never be with, for whatever reason, and his despair following that realization. while the music in pt. 1 is tense and fast to show his angst and paranoia, the music here is sad and hopeless. on another level i like the idea of how obsessions inevitably lead to disappointment. if you build anything up in your head long enough the real thing can't possibly compete. | |
