| Manu Chao – Mi Vida Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| The phrase 'mi vida' literally means 'my life', but it's also a very common term of endearment, something like 'my darling'. I think this song is addressed to a lover; it's about being trapped in a relationship that you realise is fruitless but can't contemplate ending - so he's pleading with her 'no me hagas sufrir mas' (don't make me suffer any more), but at the same time he doesn't want her to leave, whether physically or emotionally: 'no quiero que te alejes cada dia mas y mas' (I don't want you to 'put distance between us' (lit.) more and more every day). She is both 'mi ultimo refugio' and 'mi ultimo ilusion' (my final refuge, my final illusion). Very depressing, very human - yet beautiful, with phrases like 'lucerito sin vela, mi sangre de la herida'. Not to mention, it's one of the most engrossing bass grooves I've heard. | |
