| Shad – Angel Lyrics | 17 years ago |

It's said that the devil was in charge of music in heaven, that's the main idea of the song, and now he still controls the music industry: "In this industry you built so sinfully simple" The song is actually called "I Heard You Had A Voice Like An Angel/Psalm 137" Psalm 137 is about Israel's captivity in Babylon. Their captors ask the Israelites to sing for them, the Israelites refuse, “How could we sing the Lord's / song / in a foreign land?” (137:4). I think Shad put the psalm in the title because that's how he feels about the music industry today. He refuses to sign with a major label because he doesn't stand for what they do (objectifying women etc.. look up Exile by Shad) This is a really powerful song, Shads got it figured out. It's nice to see a rapper writing songs like this... plus he's Canadian! |

I swear Bjork is an unearthly creature who has come to teach human kind of our fundamental flaws. This song is genius. I was listening to Medula one day and had an epiphany about the meaning of this song. It's about how all life (humans included) originated in the oceans. We are still connected through the ocean because our sweat is salty (our blood also has a sodium chloride content of 0.9%) I didn't know that the song was written for the Olympics but that makes a lot of sense. |

This was the first Modest Mouse song I ever heard, loved em ever since. I get the impression this song is about origin of life. As Isaac Brock is an Atheist, it's from an evolutionary perspective and this song (in my opinion) epitomizes the beauty of evolution. Especially in this verse: "A third had just been made and we were swimming in the water..." "...fWhen it occurred to me that the animals are swimming Around in the water in the oceans in our bodies" All life, including humans, came from the sea. "And another had been found, another ocean on the planet Given that our blood is just like the Atlantic" Our blood has a sodium chloride content of 0.9%... our blood is just like an ocean because it's salty.. The song also comments on the decadency of human societies: "Everything that keeps me together is falling apart" There are so many other things this song comments on, it's hard to get the entire meaning in one entry. Overall this is an amazing song, Isaac Brock is a lyrical genius. |
