I agree with the christianity/sex/marriage interpretation that Christiaan33 made of this song but there in one line that changes completely the marriage version for a Priest. When it started we had high hopes; now my back's on the line, my back's on the ropes... When it started we were alright, but night makes a fool of us in daylight. ***Well when he refers to WE he maybe is refering to the guys that started their studies to become priests, they had high hopes but nowadays they are not feeling good with themeselves, that they are on the line, because at night they might masturbate or have dreams that have got consecuences in the morning*** There we were dying of frustration, saying, "Lord lead me not into temptation." But it's not easy when she turns you on... since they've gone. ***Then they are literally dying of frustration because they keep supressing that sex-satisfaction need by begging the Lord to help them. But it does not seem to be easy because someone (a girl) is hot and she turns on him (now we stop talking about WE and star toalking about HIM)since she has gone of the church after the mass.*** If you'd only, if you'd only say yes.
