Anders has a much deeper voice. He does "Hedon, Hedon!" in the background growls and then, possibly the spoken part that's kind of distorted around 4:40 | |

To me, it sounds like it might be: Escape! Through reality That never was That never will be - It may be "to" or "from" but it sounds more like "through" to me on the recording. Either way, I love this song. Need more Havoc Unit now. It's been years since I had to import "HIV" when it came out :) |

I always wondered what people this song might be about, anyway... I hear: "She rocks mop style, and leave the rest" It certainly sounds like he says "leave" all three times, at least to me. Now I know Mike isn't very clear sometimes in his singing in Soul Coughing... so I dunno. Hell, I thought he said "mob-style" and not "mop style" That being said, what the hell is rocking mop style? Of course, there's a lot of alternative bands in the 90s where it was cool to sing about total nonsense so who knows? (and that's fine with me, I don't want politics and crap in my music anyway) |

Probably my favorite song on this album. The whole record is awesome though. Listening today with headphones on... I don't know if anyone else notices this, but at the very beginning before Jonas sings, there is ambient noise in the background. To me, it sounds like a typewriter, someone typing a letter on it. The sounds are distorted, but I'm almost certain it's a typewriter. Also, in Jonas' chorus before the guest vocalist comes up -- in the background he is saying "I swear it's true", and something else, "You swear" or "You say" I can't remember. I don't have the liner notes with me, cos I'm at work. But I do know it's "Your ghost in the limelight" and not "You're a" -- otherwise it seems pretty spot on. Can't get enough of this album, or this song. |

I know I'm probably REALLY late pointing this out, as the last comments were 3 years ago, but I'd like to say that the spoken word at the beginning of the song is from the 1995 movie "The Prophecy" with Christopher Walken. It's the very beginning of the movie, the angel Simon (Eric Stoltz) is the one speaking the line. Love the song, and really love the whole Prophecy 1-3 movies with Walken. |

All of these songs I posted from "Black Umbrella" were by ear, so if anyone has any corrections or comments, please feel free to post them. I'd just like to add that of the 1500 albums or so that I have that "Black Umbrella" is one of my top 10 albums, ever. |
