@[tmil1203:29865] I also view it as "turn on" as "turn against" (or at least it being able to be interpreted both ways), it definitely feels like a pessimistic track. |

@[Sicklenhammer:28489] Punks didn't necessarily love Communism, and that goes double for The Ramones where Dee Dee was a Republican and loved Reagan |

| Moonface – Love the House You're In Lyrics

I think this song, in a general sense, is a reluctant acceptance of the way one is. Right from the start:
"I regretfully withdraw my offer
To try to improve myself
I sincerely believe the results
Would be a disaster"
Throughout the song, there are declarations about oneself that seem negative and an expressed desire to be someone else. However, I believe the prevailing sentiment of the song is positive in the sense that you are who you are and you have to love yourself (the house you're in) even if you have a well-intentioned demon inside. Hell, maybe that's your main attraction. |

This song is about drug addiction. "High in the sky", "coming down", "I will always want you", " I fell under your spell". Obviously a drug song masquerading as a love song. |

I really don't feel like analyzing this right now, though I might eventually. Nonetheless this song is so mint, I've been listening to it a lot. So good. |

I also noticed the similarity of the "I miss you" part in this song to that in Slint's Good Morning Captain. There has to be a connection between the two, after all both are/were on Touch and Go. |

Pretty straight forward song about Mussolini. The great thing about Albini's lyrics is that he steps into the first person. I mean imagine yourself as Mussolini, you'd probably like your job too. |

| Big Black – Tiny, King Of The Jews Lyrics

One of my favourite Big Black songs. The muffled vocals give it this really menacing feel that gets under my skin (in a good way). As for meaning, I'm not quite sure, other than the obvious self-hatred turned outwards.
The title confuses me because I'm not sure what it has to do with Jews. I also wonder if the song is related to a particular event or person. |

There's a Youtube clip where Albini describes what he's singing about. It's a brilliantly brutal song. |

Agree 100% with the war interpretation, I actually think it is fairly obvious. Also the title being "Call it a Ritual" alludes to the fact that The Middle East has been an area which has had a large number of military excursions in my opinion. The British, French, Soviets, Americans, you name it. |

I don't hesitate to say this is my favourite song ever. There are no lyrics but there is so much emotion. To me it feels like the end of something - anything. An end which also means the beginning of something else. It's the immense sadness of leaving things behind coupled with the hope for the unknown future, on the grandest scale life and death. It has brought me to tears on many occasions. Brilliance. |

| The National – You've Done It Again, Virginia Lyrics
| 17 years ago

I love this song and think it's the best on the EP of theirs.
Anyway, the song in my opinion is about how the title character Virginia uses alcohol extensively to fix her social problems. Not everything fits, but it's the overall impression I get. I particularly like the section in the middle that goes
"A cool, tall, drink of water
is all you ever wanted to be
And if you had another wish to wish
you’d be fun and moving
But you can’t talk to people, right?
You can’t tell a story
You’re tall, long legged
and your heart’s full of liquor
And me and everybody are just ice in a glass"
