Jon Foreman – Learning How To Die Lyrics 17 years ago
i think that he's defining seperation as death. Not literal death in a physical way, but friendships, relationships we have with others, as people are going different ways and seperating, the bond is dying. As a result we learn to die.

Jon Foreman – Broken From The Start Lyrics 17 years ago
I believe this song is about time and eternity, childhood/innocense and reality. He makes the point that life is short and it contradicts itself because every second one is living one is also dying. Like a kid grows and meets reality we too realize that as we get older we are almost done. We grow, fall in love, have our hearts broken, love again go to college, form families and grow old only to realize that we cant escape death, and the question of eternity is vivid before you and we cant hide inside, it all dries up and we must face the end, thus our hearts are broken. It's a great song. Amazing.
