| Feist – The Water Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I think this song is about guilt, the depth and breadth of it, the sneaking influence it has, the self-awareness it brings, the private fear that becomes crippling, but, it always starts as something very small, something unsuspicious, some even soothing, like water. But water, though unsuspecting, is dangerously powerful. Especially think "few can decipher who the message is from" is speaking in regards to the quiet whisper of conscience. | |

| Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| damn good. nice play on the equality of fault between both parties. i think the core of this song is that we can all easily identify with both of the characters. there's no one to blame; sometimes love just goes bad. the intricately faceted blame game is always convoluted at best, and eventually you come to terms and realize that you were just two people who weren't meant for each other and that's the end of it all. | |
| Metric – Rock Me Now Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| oh, the excessive tragic beauty of it. this song gives me chills. | |
| We Are The City – My Old Friend Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| heartbreakingly beautiful | |
| The National – Slow Show Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Also, I feel like beyond anything this song clearly portrays a realization, that "AHA!" moment, when you get it, you know, the person you've been taking advantage of is absolutely everything to you. It becomes your obsessive singular goal to immediately try to express in any amount of words or actions how badly you've fucked up and what they mean to you, because they're fucking it. It consumes you at your core and effects everything you touch. In your attempts to explain the unexplainable you're going to be awkward, you're going to be anxious, afraid, foolish. But it doesn't matter, they do. | |

| That bridge; someday, someone will love me like that. That is what I want, that is what we all want. | |
| Japandroids – Younger Us Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This song already makes me incredibly depressed about the fact that I am getting older, and simultaneously heart-wrenchingly nostalgic. Not so much for lovers as for friends. | |
| Hot Chip – Wrestlers Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| And also simultaneously playing off the relationship dynamics of a couple. But mostly. Sex. | |
| Hot Chip – Wrestlers Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This song is about SEX, dumb dumbs. Not gay sex, not "metephorical wrestling" with the lead singer of LCD soundsystem (really guys? really?), not monday night smackdown. SEX. Say it with me. SEX. |

| Say Anything – Alive with the Glory Of Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Oh my god. When the beat drops and he sings the first line my heart almost pounds out of my chest every.single.time. The meaning of this song is simple, brave, honest, beautiful love. This song is so fucking good, it's just so fucking good. |

| The XX – Crystalised Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This song is not about meth. This song is about feeling smothered in a relationship. When something is crystalized it has been compacted down to it's hardest form, a representation of how you become when someone you care is holding you so tightly that you become harsh in your love and reactions to them. "Things have gotten closer to the sun And I've done things in small doses So don't think that I'm pushing you away When you're the one that I've kept closest" Getting closer to the sun represents the feelings coming to a peak, as in, everything is just going to break soon. The person wanting space has tried to slow their relationship down, "small doses", but the other person just can't understand why and thinks it's an attempt for them to be pushed away. Which builds up to my favorite line "So don't think that I'm pushing you away, when you're the one that I've kept closest". It's desperation, they both want each other, but can't figure out a balance, and if they don't soon, it will never work. It's almost a plea. I adore this song. |

| Cake – Friend Is A Four Letter Word Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
It's about a guy who likes a girl, more then likely he loves her. She doesn't feel the same way, she sees their relationship as strictly platonic. Thus him saying "end is the only part of the word that i heard" because she's decided that that's all they'll ever be and he knows he can't just be her friend, it's too hard. "Friend is a four letter word" means she's put a negative stigma on this word that should be positive, but it's not enough for him, and so she's made their friendship tainted in his eyes. Like a consolation prize. "I'm really only praying that the words you'll soon be saying might betray the way you feel about me." - means that he's just aching for her to say she feels something more for him then friendship. He desperately wants her to change her mind. I had to listen to this song a few times. And then BAM it all became so clear to me. It's an amazing song. Gotta love cake. |
