The National – I Should Live in Salt Lyrics 12 years ago
i was there too!! the documentary really struck a chord with me and reminded me of my little sister and me. i'm about to graduate college and leave her with our angry, semi-abusive father, and i want to tell her something like what matt's written here but i'm not sure i know how.

Stars – In Our Bedroom After the War Lyrics 14 years ago
This song reminds me of Rose/Ten II in Doctor Who after the end of season four? "The war is over, and we are beginning." Now that they've fought their final battle, and they're finally together, everything between them can really begin. In their bedroom after the war--what they've waited so long to be able to do, be together. I don't know, maybe I'm just looking at this through "Rose"-colored glasses (haaaaa), but I can really only see the positive in this song.

Ra Ra Riot – Each Year Lyrics 16 years ago
TKAM! one of my favorite books!

Coverin' a fault with
trials and coy displays

I feel that this is related to Tom Robinson's unfair trial, and Mayella Ewell's faults, which her father tried to disguise by claiming that Tom raped her.

Never mind what your
Daughter is taught in school
What she remembers is
What she has learned from you

This is obviously alluding to Atticus and Scout's relationship. Atticus strived to teach Scout good morals and how to treat everyone fairly, and I think it's a fantastic way to remember it.

i love this book and this song. (:

Hellogoodbye – Two Weeks In Hawaii Lyrics 16 years ago
So this is clearly the best hgb song in the world.
the part about ice cream is my favorite simply 'cause i love the imagery of him and a girl sitting on the floor of her room eating a tub of mint chocolate chip ice cream with two spoons and the mom comes in and they're just like 'oh crap'.
i love it! xDDD

Blue October – 18th Floor Balcony Lyrics 16 years ago
This is the most beautiful song. I absolutely love it.
It's really simple, it's just this guy and this girl are in (what i like to think of) a hotel room, and they're not like, making out or having sex or anything, they're just really comfortable around each other. There comes a night in pretty much every relationship where you just stay up and TALK. About everything in the world, about your families, your ideas, your passions. You just want to find more out about the other person because that's how much they mean to you. This is like, a song just about that night.
Also, these lyrics are wrong.

"I raised my hand as if to show you
That I was yours, that i was so yours for the taking
I'm SO yours for the taking"

are the right ones. :D

Owl City – The Saltwater Room Lyrics 16 years ago
I love this song SO MUCH! I could seriously listen to Owl City for days on end.
I think it's about first love. Like, the two people mentioned (the girl and the boy) have never really been in love before and they don't know what to do in a real relationship.
"Walking down by the bay, on the shore, staring up at the planes that aren't there anymore"
I think that line means that she's reminiscing on old relationships are people that aren't in her life anymore, but she's thinking about them nonetheless.
"I was feeling the night grow old and you were looking so cold/Like an introvert, I drew my over shirt
Around my arms and began to shiver violently"
This kind of exemplifies the awkwardness of the relationship. He sees that the girl is cold, but all he does is make HIMSELF warmer. It's a bit like those relationships you have in elementary school? You're not sure what it's all about, but you know that you've got someone there for you who you think is cute. :]

Blue October – Hate Me Lyrics 16 years ago
[That Blue October hasn't followed the ordinary path to success is clear from the first single from Foiled, "Hate Me," a song that recalls such aching rock anthems as Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" or Jane's Addiction's "Jane Says" for songwriter Justin Furstenfeld's unflinching look at himself. It's a song portraying a man's selfishness in a relationship, then coming to terms with it, and admitting the mistakes.]
That's what Justin says the song is about. Whether he means his mother or an ex-girlfriend, I don't know, but I bet it's his mom.

Iron & Wine – Passing Afternoon Lyrics 17 years ago
Maybe it's just 'cause I'm like not good at interpreting stuff at ALL, but when I first heard this song was the season 4 finale of House, Wilson's Heart. It plays while Wilson is saying goodbye to his love, Amber, while she dies. When I hear it now, the "passing afternoon" and "sailing ships that pass" remind me of how all things come to pass. And "she chose a yard to burn" means she chose a place to settle, with Wilson, and as she died she burned him. "Sunday pulls its children from the piles of fallen leaves" I take that as good things [children] coming from dead/bad things [dead leaves]. Due to Amber's death, Wilson and House's frienship would never have been tested and they would have stayed being mediocre friends. This episode is SO SAD. Every time I watch it I cry. :/ I don't know, this is all very relative to House, but it's what it makes me think of.
