I love everyone's interpretation of the song, I just feel that it isn't simply pharmaceutical companies faults that people take these pills. If anything I think society is tired of trying to work through its own problems, so instead of using hard work and purpose to fix depression, instead of using discipline to solve ADD or ADHD, people go for a quick fix and take the pills instead. I love that Matt doesn't simply talk about the pills given off by doctors, but talks about all forms and manners of coping with issues without looking into oneself and finding the answer. When you need a pill to feel, will you ever truly feel again? |

The word "curious" was because she is inquiring to her father why he thinks there is something wrong with her. I don't think there are really any innate homosexual references in this song, people just seem to take the lyrics and apply them to whatever familial issues they are currently having with their parents. I do think that certain lines such as "holding back my secrets, naked broken pieces" alludes to it not being anything to do with homosexuality or coming out. If so it they would be saying the exact opposite, that she has revealed these secrets and they were not understood or accepted. In the end it is just a song about parents that don't understand their daughter for whatever reason. Just a normal state of them believe she is not going on the right path with whatever she is doing, not simply strictly easy simple and obvious issues such as suicide, homosexuality, or eating disorders. Arguments erupt between child and parents for much less as well as much more complex reasons. A father that doesn't understand a child's lifestyle, drug addictions, alcohol dependencies, or maybe just lack of motivation to move forward and achieve something in life. The line "I guess I'm under the weather, because nobody belongs here down with me" is probably the best line of the song. Just feeling completely alone. Definitely a good song, just wish I had a better history tied with Shiny Toy Guns. |
