Washed Out – All Over Now Lyrics 12 years ago
Indulging in a fantasy, or an incredible, but temporary, reality (described in It All Feels Right, Don't Give Up, Weightless). The end of that experience has come, and this is his acceptance. For some time there was denial about the end, and that caused anxiety (beginning in All I Know, most desperate at Falling Back). But now that true acceptance has come, there is relief.

Everything about this song is perfect. The lyrics and atmosphere of the music capture that sentiment so well, and it so neatly wraps up the concept of the entire album.

Washed Out – All I Know Lyrics 12 years ago
Pretty straightforward lyrics about a relationship that Greene is having trouble getting over. Beautiful and relatable.

The most interesting aspect to me, though, is the cheerful tone the song takes. It seems as though he's hopeful - the two are still friends, at the very least. They still talk, laugh, and share a connection. She's saying that it's over, but a part of him doesn't believe it, and he doesn't want to.

Not too far from where I am right now.

Thom Yorke – The Eraser Lyrics 14 years ago
The lyrics are too personal to be about anything other than a relationship. I think he's talking about a woman he's corresponding with and he doesn't understand her intentions. They started off as just normal acquaintances, maybe even friends. He's really not interested in much beyond that, but she's being aggressive in developing the relationship. She's contacting him more and more on her own will (not his encouragement), and what can he do but respond in kind? Why not? He's been bored lately, and this at least keeps him busy. However, it's this boredom that is his weakness. He has a hole in his life, and she is filling it, ever so subtly. Without realizing, he has developed an attachment.
So now that he's interested, he wonders, what could become of this? What is she going for? Her signals are both hot and cold, and he's not even sure he wants something to come of this. It's beginning to be more of a problem than it's worth, so he decides he wants to remove her from his life.
But she won't go away.

My interpretation draws from different lines throughout, not in order, but pretty much every line is covered. I thought of this song because this is happening to me right now, and it turned out the lyrics were even more relevant than I thought. For me, it's confusing and irritating. I don't even like this girl, and yet I feel attached to her... can she just go away? When she's warm towards me, it's kind of fun; but when she's cold, I only feel the deepest resentment.

MGMT – Time to Pretend Lyrics 15 years ago
Of course everyone is entitled to their own interpretation, and no one can truly know what the mgmt boys meant with these lyrics. All the same, why would you choose to "take the song at face value"? Have you ever written anything yourself? Writing is, first and foremost, a method of self-expression. it's a process that involves spending a lot of time and/or creative power to make an attempt at telling the world what you feel and think. yes, some "songwriters" just throw together lyrics to be funny or simply carry the music... but mgmt don't strike me as that type of band. add in the fact that they are in their 20s and (at the time of writing) just beginning to experience the overwhelming sensation of media exposure - it makes perfect sense for these lyrics to be authentic and personal. The very first two lines demonstrate this exactly.
It's possible I'm biased because I relate to these lyrics so well. I have a bunch of close friends who are in a band that is beginning to gain attention since their lead singer was recently on american idol. Him being my best friend of 5 or so years has really given me a freaky inside look at getting a glimpse of fame. We're all in our early 20s and lust for the adventurous, wild life full of sex and drugs. Personally, what these lyrics are saying makes this song an extremely apt definition for this period of my life.
I just don't see how you can possibly think that they bothered writing this song only to make fun of rock stars when the more likely situation is that they are experiencing these thoughts and feelings themselves.

MGMT – Time to Pretend Lyrics 15 years ago
That's insulting. Read the 3rd verse and tell me they haven't invested their personal feelings in these lyrics.

Just make an attempt at higher-level thinking for me please?

Coldplay – We Never Change Lyrics 16 years ago
I've always felt pretty much exactly the same way, about the entire album. I never thought I would hear another person speak such similar feelings to mine about it, so that's really cool.

this was the album that got me through and over one of the most difficult and awkward relationships I've ever had. It's for this reason that I'm convinced Coldplay haters are either ignorant of this album or else have no soul.

Cut Copy – That Was Just a Dream Lyrics 16 years ago
I'm pretty sure it's just:
"That was just a dream
Yesterday..."
x2

Although I wish it were DeeJai's version, that's cool.
