I think that the song is about a Girl (Jenny) that he loved and lost. He is looking at her with much sadness and regret. It is for me the emotional pain that feels like a knife stabbing his heart, not so figurative but that is just my thoughts. |

I checked the album cover and it does say "an x" instead of "an ex". But its hard to determine that from just hearing it I guess. Also, maybe they left it ambigious so that it would have a dual meaning? Like they do not think there is any hope left at all for their relationship. |
