| Death Cab for Cutie – Cath... Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think "Cath" is a reference to Catherine Earnshaw of Emily Bronte's novel Wuthering Heights. She left a man she truly loved to marry someone who she was mildly happy with because of his status, but her feelings for her old love drove her to fit-throwing and chaos, and she created a whirlwind around her before her death. The song is amazing and totally smacks of the book. |

Yeah, except for the fact that he had a girlfriend who he lived with for many years and eventually gave almost all his estate to... Freddie Mercury was bi. Maybe you were MIA too. |

Oh, I love this song. It is sleazy and questionable, but so much fun. I cannot resist swaying to that bangin' bass. And the video is pure gold. I can't tell you the number of times I have been having an awful day and just pulled that up on my iPod for an instant attitude readjustment. It's nearly as pleasurable as watching my video of Tiny Tim stripping and singing "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" |

Oh, to have someone feel this way about you. The purest love song I have ever heard and probably my second favorite, only after Led Zeppelin's "The Rain Song". Which people don't tend to recognize as a love song. My favorite line is "You cool your bed-warm hands down on the broken radiator." That's just genius. |

| Snow Patrol – Please Just Take These Photos From My Hands Lyrics | 17 years ago |

"I read your name under words in your elegant hand you probably don't mean now I fold the letter and think of a million and one things that I could have done different..." Purest poetry. That line made so much sense a couple of months ago, when I stumbled across a love letter from my ex. We were fighting so much then - post-break-up - that this song just helped. I don't know why. |

| Snow Patrol – The Lightning Strike Lyrics | 17 years ago |

While I like (ii) and (iii), the song's true beauty lies in (i) for me. I guess I relate to it so well that I can't help it. Here's my interpretation... "What if this storm ends, and I don't see you as you are now ever again?" To me this is someone worrying that if the ugly circumstances surrounding the situation clear up, they won't see the person helping them through it in the same way. "A perfect halo of gold hair and lightning set you off against the planet's last dance." The "stormy" circumstances make the helpful person beautiful and indispensable. "Just for a minute, the silver-forked sky lit you up like a star that I will follow." The person has become a beacon in light of the situation. "And now it's found us, like I have found you - I don't want to run. Just overwhelm me." You want to be overwhelmed by the person before it's too late, the storm is over, and they return to normal. "What if this storm ends? And leaves us nothing Except a memory A distant echo I want pinned down I want unsettled Rattle cage after cage Until my blood boils I want to see you As you are now Every single day That I am living Painted in flames All peeling thunder Be the lightning in me That strikes relentless." I'll just lump this bit. :) You want this person to look to you exactly like they do now, in the midst of the storm, for the rest of time. (My ex and I had a particularly ugly break-up, and afterward my best friend - a guy - picked up the pieces. And he became like my sun. When I heard this song, I so related, afraid that when the storm cleared, I wouldn't feel the same way.) |

| Snow Patrol – Run Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I have always been a die-hard Snow Patrol fan, and when I got the chance to go to my favorite place of all time - Ireland - I was ecstatic. I even drove through the area where the boys recorded Eyes Open! It was really amazing. When we went to see the Cliffs of Moher, it was cold and miserable and raining. They are awe-inspiring and make you feel so insignificant. I listened to this song that night, and it has been forever married to the Cliffs in my memory. When I have my dream about falling off the Cliffs, this song plays over and over and over in my head. |
