The sun will set the end of their life, and the shadows embrace the speakers world. I close both locks below the window. I close both blinds and turn away. Sometimes solutions aren't so simple. Sometimes goodbye's the only way. The first part is the speaker can't face the fact his friend is dying, and although he realizes that there isn't a solution for this he can't really face it. Pink cards and flowers on your window, Your friends all plead for you to stay. Sometimes beginnings aren't so simple. Sometimes goodbye's the only way. Perhaps the dying one doesn't want to live any longer, you know pulling the plug kind of idea. The friends don't agree with this decision because they are clinging to the hope that he or she could live, because they don't want to start life over without him or her. Its really a beautiful song that I can really connect to. |

First Verse -He came back for her after she had already gotten over him. The damage is not that they had broke up, that he had come back. Second Verse -The steady murmur is her conscience telling her that she can't be with the guy in her doorway, she has found somebody else now. Chorus -well you think its kind of obvious, the hurricane (her lover) came back for her and she realizes that she can never escape it, even when its over she'll always remember have him in her heart (the dust won't settle) Third verse -Upon realizing that her love won't go away she won't follow her heart. She'll lean on what matters that their relationship hadn't worked before and she realizes that it probably won't ever. But if he doesn't go away at first she realizes that she won't be leaning on that for long Fourth verse -She tells him that he "came back too slow" meaning she already got over him but not really. etc. Most of this song is easy to interpret. I liked the kid idea though but it would be kind of weird if her child was sleeping in her bed...yeah. |

Wait I need to correct this First stanza and Second stanza: Two lovers are falling apart even though they don't want to and think the lighthouse will save them Third Stanza: The speaker remembers the lighthouse because he was saved by the ghost who haunts it. And like Happiness theory says she warns the speaker about love because of how she was hurt. Fourth Stanza: "Love, you are foolish you are tired" Note the comma after love. It could mean that the speaker is speaking to his love rather than saying the name. Perhaps the speaker will obviously follow his/her partner anywhere despite the dementia sleepyness brings. But is convinced otherwise because the city is burning and the ocean is turning. Their only chance is the lighthouse. Fifth: Its talking about how the ghost got there. Her lover never arrived so she lures the ships off their course in hopes to bring her lover back. Sixth: Well obviously they made a mistake in going to the lighthouse. The irony is that the lighthouse was no safer than the burning city or the turning ocean but it was the only thing that kept the couple together with an unwanted third party. Get it? |

| The first two stanza I think are about a woman and a man searching for a way to save their love. And Greta is using the burning city as a metaphor for it. And when the speaker was a child she or he (but I'm just going to use she because most other people seem to think the speaker is a woman) was saved by a ghost who was waiting for her late husband (the sailor) to come home and thus she sings there forever. So since she was saved by this ghost the speaker thinks that the ghost can save her again because she knows how it feels to lose love. But the ghost was possibly angry for some reason maybe she was jealous that they had love or maybe she was upset that they couldn't love each other as well as they ought to so she trapped them there forever so they were forced to. | |
