You are onto something about life only being happy in still lives and I can see how you could find the up beat melody as being almost sarcastic. But, he portrays someone helping another get through the "days so long and black", and he furthermore comforts this idea with the last part, that life is only beautiful in still life, that life isn't going to be wonderful. |

This is a loving, good time. Something "that only I should see". "Only to get the urge to kiss you there", definitely cunnilingus. I will have to agree with the majority of the earlier comments, in that this is a song of love too. This isn't lust. The bluish blue that is described has such a personal aspect to it, and lust has such a general implication for me, that it cannot be simply lust. |

I like this song because its so applicable to everyone. We've all had those days where we sleep all day, groggy, and am really negative about where our life is going. When he says he woke up at night, it reminded me of when i would sleep in those odd patterns, and the loneliness that comes from it. Great song, deserves the hit title. |

Its all of the above, and also, dont expect yourself to be someone you arn't. This isnt hinted in the song, its just a personal lesson, expecting yourself to be better than you are in some terms can leave you upset with your life. |

I agree with dstar. It is a break up. Obviously, he was a bad natured man with not the same intentions as her in the relationship, and he has gotten over her quite easily, while she still feels him in many aspects of her life. He did not treat her well, "bad bad man", but she still fell for him. She is aware that he is not good for her, but cannot get over him. Her life is full of sadness, during and especially after they dated. |

Maybe also, how this cycle renders us less happy with our lives, and like what tommmy expressed, taking moments for granted more often when this happens. |

If anything they are putting down technology. Especially through the monopines and cell phones, which i saw for the first time in LA, and are extremely ugly and a poor excuse of a 'tree'. "I want to hear you breathe" reflects how unnecessary some conversations are. "Scroll through your future", like when one reads their text inbox. 'Lives on a nightstand' would be the cell phones, and their 'trick dimension'
Just more of a side note, a "box of wine", reflects something pathetic. Some people believe boxes just arnt the same as bottles, and it seems they believe cell phones arnt as good as person to person interaction. |

I feel differently about the meaning now. It is about a relationship, and careers, but not HIS job, rather it is her job. He misses her, while shes off in the rat race. They most likely broke up for her career advancement, and he regrets it. |

Both of the conclusions are good, the "rat race" doesnt apply much to relationships, and yet the next is very much about a relationship. I get a sense that it is these combined, the lack of enjoyment of a job, and quite possible at the same time a relationship issue that guru desribed. |
