Yeah that's the feeling I got from the second verse. "And she told you bad things, you wish you could change, in the lazy summer. And she told you laughing, down to her core, so she would not cry." That definitely sounds like she's telling him about a terminal illness that she has to me. |

I agree with most of the things that ArtofMurder has posted on here, but would just like to put forward the thought that in the second verse, it sounds to me not like they're switching drivers, but when she's asking him "Why are you doing this?" she's not asking him about the car, but she's asking him why he's ending their relationship. And in his reply "I'm not doing anything." he's pretending that he thinks she's talking about what he's physically doing, which would be just sitting in the car doing nothing. "But I didn't even believe that myself." He clearly knows exactly what she's talking about. "This is what's best, for me, for you, for us. Or maybe just for me, I thought." He's trying to clear his conscience by saying it's better for both of them to end the relationship, but deep down he knows he's being selfish.
Anyway, that's just my take on it. Hope that makes sense :) |
