| Bright Eyes – Ladder Song Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I think this song is about the mind set of someone who is pondering the end of life. And being scared and clueless, but at the same time, there's nothing you can do. "No one knows where the ladder goes You're gonna lose what you love the most You're not alone in anything You're not unique in dying" No one knows what happens after death until you die, and everything you've built up on earth worthless in the end. Everything you feel "love" for will be gone. "I feel estranged every now and then Fall asleep reading science fiction I want to fly in your silver ship Let Jesus hang and Buddha sit." One of my favorite stanza's, as I can really relate. I believe in Jesus Christ as my Savior. But the sick thing is I'm so jaded with it all. I pray every now and again. But mostly I'm going through the motions. I'm not angry with God. I just lack enthusiasm and motivation to do... anything really. I sit at night and tell myself I should be praying and reading my Bible or something... but I usually just read some science fiction and go to sleep... It's really messed up I know, but I suppose other struggle with it too. That's how I intemperate this stanza. He feels estranged to God and the idea of focusing on Him. So he just lets religion chill out and he just reads. I feel you Conor... ha "It's on now The days are long now The ups and the sun downs And a twisting mind" Basic apathy, going through the motions. Lack of emotion. Lack of concern. "If I gotta go first I'll do it on my terms I'm tired of traitors Always changing sides They were friends of mine" Here I think it's talking about how he'll die on his own terms, how he doesn't feel that life can or should be taken away without warning. A confused and frustrated though for sure. "Don't hang around once the promise breaks Or you'll be there when the next one's made Kiss the feet of a charlatan Some imagined freedom" Promises don't mean I thing, this could relate to the promise that God saves us if we believe in him. Maybe he's frustrated because he feels he hasn't lived up to the expectation that he believes God has? Either way, it's a warning to stay away from promises. Kiss the feet of a fraud (charlatan) And imagined freedom (redemption?) I think this stanza is overall about being frustrated with religion. "All the rest is predictable You can say you're the first to know Bought a mantra to concentrate Car alarm or hissing snake" Death is predictable, but everything else has to be a mind game, so it's obviously disheartening. Bought a mantra (used for meditation) to try and get an answer. "I know now How it's gonna turn now You've got to calm down Or I'll lose my place Got to get to the center Got to get to the concert Run off with a dancer Gonna celebrate" Sorta a sign of hope in the song. A sigh of relief that he may understand and he's going to live life for the moment right now. "We'll welcome the new age Covered in warrior paint Lights from the jungle to the sky See now a star is born Looks just like a blood orange Don't it just make you want to cry? Precious friend of mine" This stanza almost sounds like the turning point, a new age for him in life, he'll fight this war of depression and apathy and see light. A new star is born (a metaphor for him being reborn) Maybe he does it for the friend that he lost? "Don't it just make you want to cry? Precious friend of mine" "Will I know when it's finally done? This whole life is a hallucination You're not alone in anything You're not alone in trying to be" Will he truly understand when everything's over? I think this stanza represents self examination. The fact that even though he's afraid he may be wrong, he's got to put his faith in something. And finally, no one's alone in this. We all have these thoughts and struggles. Freaking incredible song. I love it so much. People's Key is an incredible album. Who cares if it doesn't sound like their old stuff? The more diversity a band brings to me the happier I am! |

| La Dispute – Future Wars Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I think this song is about rape. A little deeper I would think that it's a relationship where the female had no desire to have sex, and the boy forced himself on her, until he finally snapped... Pretty crazy stuff, gotta love La Dispute though |

| Manchester Orchestra – I Can Feel a Hot One Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I believe this song is about his girlfriend or wife who becomes pregnant, and kills herself. I could feel a hot one taking me down For a moment, I could feel the force Veiny to the point of tears And you were holding on to make a point What's the point? I am but a clean man, stable and alone man Make it so I won't have to try The faces always stay the same So I'll face the fact that I'm just fine I said that I'm just fine I remember, head down After you had found out Manna is a hell of a drug And I need a little more, I think Because enough is never quite enough What's enough? Here he's talking about depression, she was "holding on" to make a point, but he never knew what the point was. He tries to tell himself that he's fine and that being alone shouldn't be that hard. But he wants someone to "Make it so he won't have to try." In my interpretation he's talking to God. Then, "I remember head down after you had found out, manna is a hell of a drug." Head down as in praying. Manna is spiritual nourishment. So he or the woman (depends on how you look at the tense) are looking toward religion for their hurt. But they need more because it's not really helping "What's enough?" I took it like a grown man crying on the pavement Hoping you would show your face But I haven't heard a thing you've said In at least a couple hundred days What'd you say? I was in the front seat, shaking it out And I was asking if you felt all right I never want to hear the truth I want to hear your voice, it sounded fine My voice is sounding fine I could feel my heartbeat taking me down And for the moment, I would sleep all right Veiny with a selfish fear To keep me up another restless night Another restless night Here I think of either him getting the news that she was pregnant. Second stanza, they're in a car and he's asking if she's okay, he can tell something is wrong. But he thinks nothing of it as "she sounded fine" (Also I love that there seems to be a little time jump, it seems like a lot of it is flashbacks and then the final stanza is present time with the male role.) Third stanza, he's basically just worried sick about her. The blood was dry, it was sober The feeling of audible cracks And I could tell it was over From the curtains that hung from your neck And I realized that then you were perfect With my teeth ripping out of my head And it looked like a painting I once knew Back when my thoughts were not entirely intact So I prayed for what I thought were angels Ended up being ambulances And the Lord showed me dreams of my daughter She was crying inside your stomach And I felt love again He finds her body, she hung herself from the curtains, He then realized how beautiful and amazing she was right when he lost it all. He prayed for angels to take her to heaven, but all he saw was ambulances. (another religious reference) so it's all based on faith, since you can't "see" the spiritual. But then the Lord showed him is daughter, she was crying inside her stomach (so sad) "And I felt love again" |

Andy Hull is not bisexual. But besides the point. This song is about a relationship between a man and a woman, but it has parts from both persons perspectives. |

| Modest Mouse – Jesus Christ Was an Only Child Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Jesus isn't an only child. James is his brother, (half brother if you consider that Jesus' Father is Literally God and James' father is Joseph) I don't really understand this song at all. As a Follower of Christ I fail to see where he was going with this one. Maybe just angry with religion and christianity at that time, When will people come to the understanding that it's not a religion? It's a relationship! A hard one to keep up I'll give you guys that. I'm not trying to be a preacher but God hasn't given up on anyone. | |
| Brand New – You Stole Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This song is very obviously about not feeling worthy of God. First stanza- The flames are burning me in my bed, but I just don't care. This says that in is consuming him but, like a lot of people, even Christians, just don't care. They love God, but they can't give Him full control. "we all go to sleep in the same place and in the morning, hope that we're all the same just sit around like broke down cars in the lot waiting for repairs." We do nothing to try and grow our relationship with Christ, we sit around and just think that since he's God, he'll make everything work out. We all go to sleep and hope that when we awake everything will be just the same and not having to worry about anything. "well, I wish that I was as good as you caring and trusting and I wish that my condition was new but I'm old and rusting." Now the story thickens, as we learn that Jesse is jealous of someone in his life that has a relationship with God he's either afraid to have, or just wishes he could obtain. He feels like nothing new will come out of it and basically feels jaded with the thought of God. Or maybe the last line could just be running from the first in saying that he/she is perfect and he is old and rusting. "we just hurry up only to wait add to the list of all the places we hate I pretend like I got something to say but I've got nothing." He doesn't feel like he's got anything to say to God. He feels like God doesn't listen and doesn't change things, and is just so upset and pissed at himself that he feels that way, but it's just an emotion, they don't just go away, also the first line probably has to do with paranoia. "now I know that you stole from the cradles they were rocked in you took the first words that they spoke yeah, you stole" Now we learn on how he takes his anger out, on satan. Satan steals us at birth because we're naturally sinful. Also I'm pretty sure the bible has a quote somewhere that's talking about the nature of man and says that the first things that come out of our mouth's are selfish cries. Selfishness is a sin. "so if I'm a liar and you're a thief at least we both know where the other one sleeps let's end this tonight" So Jesse is a liar (a hypocrite, trying to find God when he's not perfect) and Satan is a thief, We both know where we stand, so let's just end this. I'm not exactly sure what he's talking about ending. Maybe just the constant war of good and evil? End his ignoring God's call, End Satan's reign over humans? That's the way I see it |

| Brand New – Degausser Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Is it "You're brought back but you're running." Or "You burn bright but you run out." ? | |
| Brand New – Handcuffs Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
My personal view of this song is a twisted up version on what God thinks of us. "I'd break into a town's worth of houses and rob whole families blind I'd do it to you like you'd do it to me if you knew you would get away fine." We rob God of a lot. And it's like saying he would like to do the same to us so we see how it feels. "I'd drown all these crying babies if i knew that their mothers wouldn't cry I'd lower them down and squeeze real hard and let a piece of myself die." Saying that He's sick of hearing people whine about things that don't matter, and they need to focus on what does matter, He'd be letting a piece of Himself die by killing us though, For he loves us to much and will not give up on what he created. "It's hard to be the better man, when you forget you're trying." God saying to us that we don't really try. So obviously it's gonna get hard. Just my interpretation |

| Third Eye Blind – Another Life Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Sorry, I don't remember exactly where I read it, =/. But I'm really not just saying that. I remember him mentioning something about God, it was an interview about the new album, so he may have changed since he wrote this song but I dunno. And saying religion is a bunch of hooey can mean a lot of different things, I'm not religious because that's not what it's about. So many "religious" groups, campaigns, and other stuff is really corrupted, just because you don't dub yourself as religious doesn't mean you don't believe in a higher power that is a God. But anyways, it's my view. I honestly do think that's what it's about, and the fact that it was a hidden track and wasn't supposed to receive much publicity can back that. Also, and atheist would be the wrong word to call them if such accusations were to be true, an atheist is someone who tries to prove the idea of God wrong and doesn't believe in creation, which even from other lyrics it's clear that he recognizes something. Agnostic would be the correct word. | |
| Brand New – Noro Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| While I respect your oppinon I'd have to strongly disagree, I look at all of the songs that Brand New have that pertain to religion are not taking any side on it, and if they are it's definitely leaning to the christian side. Because I feel that he's stuck in this state sometimes where he feels he is simply not good enough, and he doesn't censor his thoughts, so I can see where you're coming from. But. Lyrics like Milestones "Be My Breath, there's nothing I wouldn't give." Or Daisy's chorus. Also songs like "In a Jar" about being not good enough. And failing all the time. And then there is "You Stole" which I think is about Satan's temptation and how he'll steal your life away if you let him. Even the title of the last album makes sense with what he's saying "The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me" I'm trying to live for God. But it's really hard. | |
| Brand New – Not the Sun Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Oh, and btw, I'm looking at the song from the perceptive of Luca, not Jesse or whoever you want to believe is in the story, and when it hits the "be my serene" part it switches perspectives. | |
| Brand New – Not the Sun Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I think it's "To be my bait." And it's also makes the most sense in my interpretation to the song, which goes along with the entire album. I think this song is about a girl (Luca) chasing him and he's just not sure. "You've set on my, but you are not the sun." Meaning you're after me but you're not the one. And then he gives in in Luca and she turns out she's dirty and it was all wrong just like he thought, leading to his epiphany and finally finding the place where God wanted him to be, and learning from the mistakes. |

This song is absolutely incredible, and for the people who have dealt with religious struggle, you know what I mean when I say he nails what goes through our minds when we think about that stuff so well. I personal have found a peace with God and learned to except Jesus as my saviour. Even though I have problems being faithful on a daily basis. I love this song so much. And the music that backs this emotion is flawless. It just kills me when people don't realize that "The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me" has a happy ending. Archers is all about realizing you were wrong and learning from your mistakes and finding an inner peace. At least I think. And then when you can disipher the back up vocals on so many of these songs, It speaks to you in a whole new way, "So throw your tongue in mine, I know it's so hard breathing in alone, and you were right, I know I said you were wrong. I always said you were wrong." Is what I got out of the back up lyrics. My interpritation is he needs God and can't "breathe" without him, And God was right, even though he denied him at times. |

Anyone else think at the end of the record version the voice yelling is saying "I trust God" ? It sounds like that more than "Hey Justin" to me. Though both makes sense. But the way "Justin" is said confuses me. Anyway good song, very emotional |

| Brightwood – Marked & Tied Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Prettiest song ever, This song is simple amazing, Pretty self explanatory, Leaving someone you don't want to even when you know you have to, at least I think. The chorus implies that she had done something to deceive him, and even though he still loves her, I can't still be with her. Amazing song |

| Angels and Airwaves – Sirens Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This song is soo good, I love how the chorus gets creeper with every line. The lyric in the chorus Is "Taste you as you breathe" not bleed. | |
| Third Eye Blind – Deep Inside of You Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I don't believe this song has anything to do with sex, the name is not referencing that at all... This a one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard though... Just simply amazing. | |
| Third Eye Blind – Another Life Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Also "The golden gates is like my diving board" is a metaphor for falling away from Christ and Heaven. Which I think speaks for itself. | |

Stephan is not an atheist, and that is extremely obvious with his lyrics and his mind set and he has even said he believes in God in interviews. I actually also think this song is about once having God and losing him, because we all know how easy it is to lose touch down here. People's eyes say I'm no damn good shut down and left lonely only with the maybe we could I stay inside cause I'm misunderstood I can't get no release I'm shell-shocked from some heavy blows a stranger to the people I know who used to say "he never had a down day" now I'm holding on to can't let goes and silence brings no peace I think this is explaining how he got here, how he is a loner and really has no one, so he is generally angry with life and therefore bringing him farther from Christ. because another life went through my window pane and I don't know why i've got a will to burn Saying that there is nothing he feels he can do about it and his "after life" is being taken away from him, He feels that he has no faith anymore. He feels he deserves to burn. (in hell) in attic rooms I just shut my door (shut my door) for seven weeks maybe seven more (seven more) it's like I face a seven-headed whore the fight's knocked out of me No measure for grief and I can't find it with the sound Break down, to the great god of the hand me down Holding the past around wound up at the lost and found where the colors all turn to grey wait a minute and I'm coming of a down day colorized, the city plays a double feature today and life is long, and something is wrong but i want to know what's going on and on Going more into detail on why he feels helpless. For those who don't know a Seven Headed Whore is another term for Satan, so there's another reference to religion. in another life cause it's good again and it will never die I've got a will to burn to see you again it's like another life it's like I'll not get better a will to burn Wondering what's going on in another life. In the after life. What God is thinking of him perhaps? Saying that another life will never die, because it doesn't, I got a will to see you again, to see God again, to grow back in touch. oh the time goes by and I realize, that I'm alright you thought nothing would be the same but life comes 'round again quick wits and all curious all caught up in what you say and makes me grab the time before it slips away I can't stay and I cannot wait and I'm grateful to whistle past a grave yard gate the flicker fade is getting stronger like when the days start getting longer i got the rhythm down now in the places we warred the golden gate is like my diving board and life is pointless but what's so wrong with that? Doubting Himself, confusion, possible falling into a deeper slump. cause there's another life and a sweeter pain and it will never die you got a will to burn to see you again it's like another life I feel the whole thing happen the will to burn to see you again it's like another life I got another life I got another life The closing chorus doesn't leave to much closer to the song but it manages to get the point across. "A sweeter pain" in my view is saying that it's really hard to do what's right and have a constant connection with God. It's almost painful at times, because sin is oh so sweet, but it's a sweeter pain because of the reward at the end, a reward that will never die, Another Life. As God revels this to him, He feels the whole the happen, and he knows he is saved, He has another life. That would be my view... I think that it's somewhat obvious though I do give lyrics major thought being that I'm a musician and writer myself. Don't make someone someone he's not, you can just make up stuff like "he's an atheist" just because it's what you want, but I'm not one to judge. This is just my view. Very inspirational song for me cause I can relate for sure. |

| All Time Low – Come One, Come All Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| what it says to me is maybe there is a song that really speaks to him about like something going on in his life. and its always playing on the radio. he hears it all the time and he can't take it anymore. just a neat idea. | |
| Third Eye Blind – Slow Motion Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I have the real meaning cause there is an article in the collection album I have and it says that its about rap music, and how weird and screwed up it is. | |
| Puddle of Mudd – Radiate Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| hey I'm not trying to offend you or anything, its just my opinion, I posted on the songs I think have to do with religion even though there are tons more, because its something that gets overlooked unless a band is "labeled" as christian. I am a semi professional writer and musician, being so I like to get people thinking on lyrics, if you don't agree thats fine, I didn't expect anyone to anyway. lyrics are complex, don't be so quick to judge a song. | |

its a awesome worship song! praise God!!! |

| Poets Of The Fall – Lift Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| eveningthoughts friend hit it, i take it religious too, and yes they are a religious band. quite a few of there songs deal with God and needing him and stuff like that, the video to me was as if he was imprisoned for wanting god, and the butterfly is a symbolism for beauty, being that he sees beauty in everything when you have God, and them trying to get the evil to come out of him, and it almost works a few times, also im not sure but when they hit the chorus it looks like there in a church. but yeah thats the way i take it. bottom line is Christ is great! | |
| The Servant – Orchestra Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
My thought on this song was this. "Here I am, a young man, come and get me if you can" He does not know right from wrong. and evil wants to take advantage of that. "There's an orchestra in me, playing endlessly, I even here it now, They play in the devils key, an endless symphony" Evil is everywhere all the time. "I listen to the music beautiful music" The devil will try and get you in the most beautiful ways. so basically my thought is you always have to be aware of anything, and be careful. cause evil is always around. |
|
| Poets Of The Fall – Carnival of Rust Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this song is about needing Christ, and all the stuff that will attempt to lead you away from him.. "To breath the name of your savior in your hour of need" "Without your love my life, Aint nothing but this carnival of rust" thats just the way I take it. If you think about it it works, thats the first thing that came to my mind when i heard it, besides the fact that its amazing! | |
| Puddle of Mudd – Radiate Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think the song is about becoming a christian, and how it changes your life. its a great song. if you think about it. the first verse can represent someone without Christ. and him telling her to believe, then him explaining how it changed his life. | |
