this is definitely a very personal song. kyo IS partially deaf in his left ear. and many fans did abandon diru after they changed. this song is...shockingly honest and blatant. but i disagree with windless_one. it's not mainly about people making fun of his ear. he says "LIKE you make fun of my dead left ear." i think that might just be there to let us know who he's talking about. i think it's mainly about those who criticize their change or just their musical choices in general, especially kyo's screaming. many people, even if they still call themselves fans, either tease or complain about kyo screaming too much. that brings to mind the line: "my heart screamed out, you make fun of me" -- his screaming is to convey his emotions. he puts all of himself out there as an artist. he quite literally sings his heart out on stage, but people dont appreciate that: "but you hide your true self. can't hear anything, can't feel anything. this is a place of contradiction" -- these people are heartless to him. he is screaming his thoughts and feelings to a blind and deaf crowd. "i know everyone isn't like that, but i can't accept everything" -- he knows he still has a few loyal fans, but the other ones discourage him too much. "so i still, even now, scream out in a hoarse voice to all you rotten people" -- despite all this, there's nothing else he can do but keep singing. all this is backed up by the fact that he screams the entire song. as if to spite all those who judge him. :) |

this is a beautifully haunting song. first time i heard it, i listened to it at least 50 times in a row. but i always thought it was about him killing his girl. based on the lyrics, it sounds like a love song like others have suggested, but his voice and the mood of the music suggest to me something more morbid and twisted than that. the lyrics seem to me full of sarcasm and bitterness. "she's mostly gone some other place i'm getting by in other ways" -- self explanatory. she's never there for him (maybe an affair?), so he's learning to take care of himself, to depend only on himself. "try to justify the things i used to do believe in you" -- sounds very bitter. he's disgusted at himself for trusting her once. also makes sense if she's cheating. "i tried to stay away just in case" -- he knew if he saw her, he'd want to kill her. "i've come to realize we all have our place time has a way you know to make it clear i have my role in this" -- but then he realizes he can't let her get away with what she's done (whatever that is, we don't know). also, that it is partially his fault. "i can't disappear or leave you here" -- he's made his decision. neither of them should live. "i am staying right beside you" --this is a really bitter and ironic part. he is holding her under, drowning her and himself. and the part about the lights in the sky refers to stars. "the lights in the sky have finally arrived" -- as they are drowning he is watching the stars come out. and "the lights in the sky are waving goodbye" -- they're going deeper in the water. and you know when you are under water and looking up at objects or lights, they appear to flicker because of the ripples in the water? i think its talking about that. all these other interpretations are interesting and make a lot more sense than mine, but i thought i would share my view of the song just for the heck of it. |
