no, what happens in Vices does come after A Great Fire, cause they move into a hotel room, and Vices refers to that. "I'm not your hero, I'll never be what you wanted, what you thought I would be." She probably just always acted like he wasn't good enough, and he wanted to kill her to move on and start over.

I have a lot of ideas about this song and how it relates to some of the other songs, but in general I don't think when he says "til I make you cry" that he wants to cause her pain, but he just wants to force the person to reveal that they are not completely stone-hearted, that she actually has feelings and is capable of crying.

soo. am I the only one who thinks this is about Josh? yesss I'm familiar with the story. but I think Josh was the guy. I mean think about it, they've admitted they were going out now, they broke up soon after Riot came out and say they were dating for 3 years, which makes sense with the timing this song was written, AND for further confirmation, in "Teenagers" which, no matter what people say about it being about the movie, is clearly about him, she says her "first crack at love" which means there was no one serious beforeee Josh, so yep. "I've watched his wildest dreams come true" dude. the band! haha it just all makes sense if you think about it.

soo I think this song is about Josh. yeah it's kinda out there... I probably sound crazy but since they've admitted that they WERE going out, we all think that Teenagers is about him right? that's sorta obvious, along with Ignorance, but anyway in teenagers she says "her first crack at love" and this song is fucken old, so she hadn't had like any boyfriends [at least serious ones] at the time. also, I think Misery Business is about him too, for the same reason, he was her only boyfriend at the time. and if you know the backstory to Misery Business, Hayley said it's about a girl who was going out with a guy she was in love with and manipulated him and completely changed him, and when they finally broke up him and Hayley started going out. so yeah, I really think Misery Business is about Josh for a lot of reasons, I won't get into all of them now haha. but she said that during the time the guy [Josh] and the other girl were going out though was one of the darkest times in her life, and this is one of their darkest songs. soo yep. I think this is about Josh when he was going out with the other girl, and how Hayley felt like he didn't care about her. sorryyy I repeated myself a lot. and I feel stupid for analyzing this that much lmao I need a life.

I never used to like this song much, compared to all the other ones, but lately i keep listening to it... I agree I think it is about the band becoming more and more popular and how it just keeps getting better. it's so weird to think about how long ago that was ya know? now they're like superfamous and everything's all screwed up with them. I hope so much that someday they can be close again like when they wrote this song.

Ohhmygod, this is like All We Know Is Falling all over again when everyone assumed that like every single song was about Jeremy. You really can't assume that this song is about Josh. Think about it for a second. If it was about Josh with the whole Chad thing, do you really think he'd write the music for it and play it? There is evidence that Hayley and Josh did date, but that was FOUR YEARS AGO. Hayley is dating Chad, Josh is dating someone else ( can't remember her name :]) and they're just friends now. This song could be about the hard times the band had (THAT isn't just a rumor) or it could be about any of their friends, or personal issues with other people in their lives that we don't know about. We don't know for sure. Maybe the band will reveal more information later on, but for now stopppp jumping to conclusions!

ok, so based on Xarin and monniquee's comments, i'm guessing that this song is about the death of both Nicholas Thayer and AJ's grandmother. he also makes a lot of references to the band so maybe "but i won't let this die" means that he's not going to stop trying and let the whole band suffer, but instead he'll channel his sadness into music?

the line "Won't you help me break this fence... down?" really reminds me of fences. except in fences the line is about building fences, not breaking them down. so i don't know. but maybe this is kind of like fences from another point of view, and so much more kind of sounds like misery business from another point of view. i don't know i'm probably totally wrong, just speculating here.

yeah, like some people before said, this song has to do with the whole clandestine thing. i personally think it's about how he knows he's going to die, but for a second he kind of forgets...and then realizes it again. it's hard to explain. like sometimes dreams seem really real, and while you're in them/a second or two after you wake up you might forget the truth, then you remember. there are references to movies/cinema in but home is nowhere... too, so i think this song is about how he thinks for a second that he will be able to continue his career, but then realizes again that he is going to die and never reincarnate. when he "wakes up" from the celluloid dream, all the colors turn to grey. i'm really sorry if none of this makes any sense!

i kind of agree with -pyrokinesis- and flyguy33. i think it's about either a relationship or a friendship where one of them is hurting themselves, and the other one is really worried about them and tries really hard to help them, but then they realize that the other one doesn't really care about them, and maybe is just hurting themself for attention. so i also think that the line "it meant nothing to me" is a lie, because it really meant everything to them. they're just trying to forget the other person and move on.
