The lyrics aren't very complicated, rather straightforward. I believe it's about the racial issue, especially in the USA, but this can be extended to the whole world. The first verse introduces the problem, the second tells about the blindness of some whites towards the issue, whereas the last one is about the responsibility of the blacks. Being black doesn't equal having a right to hurt others. The chorus couldn't be more easy to interpret: our appearance is only skin deep, what really matter is who we are and what we have in our hearts. Beatiful. Peace to you, people of all races, creeds and walks of life. Best wishes from Poland! |

For me it's about fame and its downsides. Actually, Fish quite often refered to this topic. |

For me, it's about an artist (Fish himself?) getting back to his home town. He contacts with his old chaps, they talk about their youth and past experiences. Although they're kinda freakish, he really enjoys their companionship, and he realises his live away from the real home is hollow, and in fact he feels insecure and unhappy. However, he knows he has to leave - he's a household name, and his place is somewhere else. Show must go on - he needs to earn another day.
I need to point out, that I'm not great interpreter of Fish, as my English is lacking. I actually followed my intuition and senses.
