Brand New – Be Gone Lyrics 16 years ago
This is just pretty much a general statement about brand new in general, but does it bother anyone else that everyone seems to credit everything that brand new does to jesse alone? according to absolutepunk.net, this song was written by vinny, not jesse. It just seems like everytime someone is trying to defend brand new they say how "I am sure Jesse did it for a reason", as if jesse is the only one making decisions about the band. I don't know how many of you actually have the physical copy of daisy, but if you check the liner notes it says "All songs written by brand new". They're clearly trying to make a point that these songs are the product of all of them.

That being said, i think its interesting as hell how similar jesse's lyrics and vinny's lyrics are. i would have assumed this was written by jesse because of the religious theme and whatnot, but its awesome that they seem to be on the same page and share similar points of view about what they depict in their lyrics.

end rant!

Brand New – At the Bottom Lyrics 16 years ago
As far as the opening verse goes, I think it's best to form a general opinion about the message rather than trying to pinpoint what specific relationship it refers to. Rather then "SHERI BROKE HIS HEART BLAHBLAH", it's moreso about reminising about the past and feeling lonely.

I think that the deer, the dog, and the men that die while searching for other things signifies how most don't see death coming. Then a juxtaposition is established between their talk of the psalms that they loved the most, and the fact that they're turning to dirt. Like a contrast between their beliefs and reality.

This song has really grown on me, at first i wasn't completely impressed but now it's one of my favorites off daisy.

Brand New – You Won't Know Lyrics 16 years ago
Arter knows whats up.

I understand and agree with what arter's take on the song's meaning, that whole connection to the book about the monk and the hangman's daughter seems to fit perfectly.

But specificly, one line has always confused me. What exactly does "love is just God on a good day" mean? For some reason i get hung up on that line, maybe just because when he sings this line its when the song really starts to pick up and intensify. But then that makes me think that it was purposely intensified at this point in the song to depict the importance of this line. Hence why i am wondering what exactly it means.

Also, people have mentioned how brand new plays songs differently live then what you hear on their recordings. When i saw them about a week ago (best performance i have ever seen, by the way) they played this song and didn't sing the last verse about heaven and husbands and and wifes. The song ended after the silver plate line. I found this interesting, considering that those lines were also missing from the lyrics posted on brand new's official website. It makes me think that those lines were like an afterthought of sorts, or that they aren't crucial to the song as a whole. I also thought it was somewhat significant that at the show the opening song was welcome to bangkok, and you won't know was last. I guess you could write that off as a coincidence, but if you buy the whole theory that the album starts with welcome to bangkok and ends with you won't know, then theres some further evidence for you.

And for the record, the william tell refrence in this song is fucking brilliant.

Dear and the Headlights – Grace Lyrics 17 years ago
"Let's get dolled up and play pretend
Cause nothing stays honest when
Every thought is cursed with intent
A pulse covered in skin and
Words covered in lips"

Those are my absolute favorite lyrics.
We all have these standards that we feel pressured to live up to, which is what makes this song so relateable. And this "constant validation" that we all seek is so vain, and we compensate our inner-self for it, as depicted in the lines about "spitting your insides out".

Not to metion, Ian's voice is like a rainbow of poptarts in my ears. amazing.
