I'm kinda pissed cos I typed out my comment and my internet lagged and I have to re-do this. -.- Basically I don't understand the whole song, but with all reference to my history lessons and the video: The emptiness of the antithesis Becomes the choking and crying land Bury the bones in the common land immersed in thesis Be burdened by depression The gritty tsunami takes me away and I smile with bitter tears Couldn't understand the value of things The hanging of the necks at the 13 stairs Seeing people becoming friendly while clapping hands That mixes in with sissy thoughts and hurts others Seeing you like this, it's just too sad Splash of blood Squashing basic instincts Talk about death I will live with my work I scream with this body of flesh that separates heaven and hell I carve the sins What will be the proof of my existence if it disappears with the wind? No one wants to talk about the truth that hurts the ear The suppressed minds Compensate the sins, and let life be gone Is it a sin for me to live because I am evil? ~~ Ok so in Japan the government officially conceals a lot of the truth about WWII. To my knowledge they portray themselves as the absolute victims, being bullied by the Allies and all - correct me if I am wrong. What actually happened was that the military got hold of the government, who weren't able to suppress the army's increasing influence over the entire nation. throw in a wall street crash, protectionist policies of other nations, and the pride of the japanese - we get a rising sun out to conquer asia, and then the rest of the world. That's why (No one wants to talk about the truth that hurts the ear The suppressed minds) Now I'm Singaporean and perhaps I am biased, but I often hear stories about how the Japanese ill-treat civilians from whatever country they conquered. (we were a Brit colony, the English people made us surrender, they were too busy fending the Nazis off their land anyway) The Japanese occupation is always portrayed as a period of pain and suffering for us, where people are tortured, raped, and basically bullied very badly. Anybody heard of Sook Ching? A massacre indeed. And thus the reference to sinning and being evil. Still, there's much controversy over whether it was appropriate for the Allies to drop two atomic (refer to entire chunk of imagery that refers to the dropping of the bombs)on Japan. If I am not mistaken, radiation still plagues Nagasaki and Hiroshima up till today. The idea is that the younger generation weren't the ones who committed the "sins"; yet retribution befalls upon them. That should explain (Is it a sin for me to live because I am evil? ) Also that line alone suggests that Dir en Grey, as they are Japanese themselves, admit that they weren't right to go around bullying China and the Southeast Asian nations. Hmm and one last part (Seeing people becoming friendly while clapping hands) I think this refers to the Allies celebrating over the successful dropping of Little Boy and Fat Man. if i read more out of this, I'll post them later. X Japan, Luna Sea and Kuroyume were three of the many great bands from the "first generation" of Jrock. X Japan is acreditted with popularising VK massively. All 3 bands are VK. In this song MYV is addressing the social stigma surrounding VK. (with metaphors like walls representative of prejudice) the prejudice itself is something like... well we all know that VK artistes use these extreme, shocking images to amplify the messages their music is trying to convey (so you get both aural and visual impact) but many people are repelled by VK at first impression...which is understandable (nobody likes being shifted out of their comfort zones, so when something different - like a man in a prettypretty dress - comes along, they will feel that their comfort zone is under threat of being changed) but because they (subconciously) fear this "change" may somehow threaten their survival, they choose to come together as a group - to form a "majority" to condemn this "minority"(in this case, VK) in attempt to curb the impact of the influence of VK on their lives. the same goes for goth, punk, racism...any form of prejudice. miyavi's message is that you are simply judging us based on our looks - you are superficial - because you do not bother to look deeper into us, otherwise, we could show you how awesome we can be. its actually kinda ironic because...those that discriminate against VK won't give a shit about this song. (which is sad) on another hand, it's kind of like, "i am poking you and you don't even know it haha~" but at the same time MYV kind of, gives hope i guess, reminding, emphasising, that of "the future (dream) that we have to protect"...i think that's the part where he talks about blooming proudly, kind of like a message to all those who were ever hurt by the prejudice to not let these...poor people get you down, you must hold your head up. if you link this up to Hi No Hikari Sae Todokanai Kono Basho de: "Then, I'll change it all, these really useless and boring values and predudice. No such thing as a meaningless, worthless or stupid dream, I'll show you. That's right. I'll change without changing. Isn't that out destiny? I have no choice but to grab a hold of it." i find it sad songs like this seem kind of...underrated...these are epic, they represent what he's trying to do - to bring the first step to world peace with music... MIYAVI IS MY FAVOURITE REVOLUTIONIST. |

i think it's about a person who didn't take the conventional road of success cos he thought that the people in coporate/office/blah jobs are like "photocopies" (duplicates of each other with no own personality, and photocopies usually come in low quality, boring black and white) so he decided to "let go of the whole world" (maybe he had such a job that made him feel very lifelss then he decided to quit it) causes stain, stay away > boring, typical lives "stain" his life/personality/soul so he wants it to "stay away" from him? anyway i love this song (not just because of the way they dance in the pv x.x) and the above stated was just my opinion so don't whack me if it's wrong >.< and i'm not good with words i doubt i put across some of my points clearly. blah. |
