That's a very interesting interpretation of the song, and I can definitely see what you are saying... it would be very hard being in a situation where you know that your time is almost up, and knowing that the one person that has been there with you through it all is having a hard time coming to terms with it and resisting getting to that point where he/she will have to let go. So you see yourself pushing them away, even when you don't really want to do so, but knowing that you are doing it for their own good eventually.
I like thinking about all the possible interpretations of a song, and this one never really crossed my mind until you mentioned it. |

Stinaisrad22, what you need to realize is - the beauty about songwriting is that every song written can be interpreted in a thousand different ways, but only the songwriter knows the true meaning of the song. Not everyone has access to the songwriter's myspace page, however. And even if everyone did, I don't think the songwriter necessarily wants EVERYONE to know the complete meaning of a song... sometimes they want to leave a song unexplained, in order to keep people guessing about the meaning of the song. So we mainly interpret songs drawing from our personal experiences, because that's what is readily available to us as an interpreting tool. Does that make anyone's interpretations any less valid, even if we ask the songwriter and the songwriter explicitly breaks the song down word-by-word to us?
I agreed with the people who stated the song is about experiencing a feeling of remorse for having walked away from a self-destructive person that means a lot to you, although I didn't necessarily think it was a "boyfriend"... it could very well be a friend or a family member. But now, and knowing the songwriter's interpretation, I can also see the message that the songwriter was originally conveying. |

This song just keeps growing on me more and more every day. And the title's play on sounds is amazingly funny. Too bad it wasn't Britney Spears' idea, since she didn't write the song. |
