| i agree completely, but sometimes meaningless words used simply for texture still work well to make a point. | |

wait... how could this song be about a dead mother telling her son to move on?? did you miss the line, "I survived against the will of my twisted folk"???? i mean... that's almost contradictory |

okay one, alot of people are saying that this is about people who believe in religions, thinking that they are BETTER than others? i don't see that at all, no lines support that. i DO see somebody who has given up on religion and thinks that that is the right way to go, maybe that people are stupid for believing in religion because he has given up on hope. this could also relate the the Deadwing theme.... not that i have read this so-called exhistant 'screenplay' that i've heard so much about... also, the lines "you can be right like me with god in the hole you're a righteous soul" is that phrased, "You can be right, like me. With god in the hole you're a righteous soul"? or is it phrased "You can be right like me, with god in the hole. You're a righteous soul"? it's not very different but idk.... i still care :p |

hey jarofsap, nice catch on this one... it could be, i totally see it. it doesn't have to be about this girl, but maybe it would to fit the Deadwing story. not sure how "give it to me, give it to me" and "no good to me, not if you bleed" fit that though, haha! maybe a change in perspective...? i really have no clue, im not thinkin hard enough -_- |

okay well i guess i agree with im_a_pirate here.. although i'm not sure if she's DEAD... maybe just gone.. i dunno. anyway, i see every time a line starts with "feeling", he is remembering things about this person and that every time a line start "seen", he is saying how he foresaw this, or feared it, or expected it... all of them combined. i'm not completely sure of how this song relates to the name "Glass Arm Shattering", though. i'm guessing that the 'glass' means something smooth and pretty...? like a work of art.. and that it's shattering is it's leaving, or dying, or wutever happened to this chick. |

i'm sorry, natijean, but neither Deadwing OR in Absentia are about incest. there are absolutely NO lines in this song or in the whole album, in fact, the relate to incest at all. please if you can, find me one. 'mother lost her looks for you' from the start of something beautiful means that the person Steve Wilson loves' (i shouldn't say steve wilson... just some guy) mother thinks her daughter is shallow and not a very good person, as probably alot of people do and this man starts to realize it. you'd have to have a pretty fucked up brain to see that as the mother being jealous of her daughter for fucking her son, leading to her murdering her daughter just so she could be the one fucking her son... In Absentia is not about incest. it is about well, basically fucked up people. people who abuse, murder, and rape other people. while songs such as 'strip the soul' might include some incest, it would have much higher meaning. it would be about this fucked up person abusing and raping his own family... if you see Deadwing as an album relating to incest, that's YOUR brain telling you something... so see a psychologist and ask him. |

"complex" and "progressive" are two different words... music doesn't necessarily have to be "complex" to fit the "progressive" genre. also, i have seen on numerous interviews Steven Wilson admitting Porcupine Tree to being a progressive rock band... |

the last two lines "And in the morning when I find I've lost you, I throw a window open wide and step through" describe a man (this David, i guess) killing himself, jumping out of a window to the ground, when he finds out the woman he has fallen in love with does not love him back and has left him. VERY effing similar to 'stop swimming' on the stupid dream album. |
